I have to thank @Jeanniemaries for the post she made about the Postcrossing website last week, because it's thanks to her that my daughter and I discovered this exciting program. My first recipient is a young lady from the Russian Federation, which is exciting. Yesterday, my daughter helped me pick out the postcard pictured here. She chose it because she's been learning all about our state flag in school recently. I'll stop at the post office on the way home from work this morning to get proper postage for it. Our local branch is great, and the employees are always happy to let me pick out specific stamps to use on the things I send internationally. Of course, it's been a while since I had active pen pals, so I hope that's still true today! And, come to think of it, this is also the very first postcard I've ever mailed by itself and not as part of a package! What a crazy thought... I requested two more addresses last night, so my daughter and I will go pick up some more postcards today and get them ready to go, too. Our next ones will be going to Turkmenistan and Germany.

I have read about Postcrossing, it is an interesting site. May be I will join later this year, when the weather is better and I can go out buying postcards.

I did not see the post about the postcrossing. Is that a site for postcard penpals? I wasn't sure if that is what you meant. I was thinking at first that you created the post card on a site and were selling them. A friend of mine does things like that on a site called Redbubble. She made $800 last year creating designs that were sold on there. I am not very creative unfortunately or I could do that to.

Yes, it's a site for penpals. Some people stick to sending just a postcard, others seem to like receiving letters or a little more. I'm sending a magnet with a postcard to Germany this weekend. I do create postcards (and other products) on Zazzle. I've sold quite a few of one design, but I haven't uploaded anything recently. I'm going to have to start actively adding more. I know there are a few here who do really well with it. I'll have to look into Redbubble--I've heard of it, but I'm not all that familiar with their offerings.

I visited the site too but did not join yet. I am afraid giving my home address to someone I do not know in person. Is P.O. Box address accepted?

Yes, they do accept P.O. boxes! I'm not comfortable giving out my home address, either, so I give out my P.O. box instead.

Neat - I will have to look that up too - we'd definitely be interested in that!! I used to have pen pals - and mail art pals - from all over the world. I know the mass mailing of "stuff" was pushed back because postage had gone up so high, so it's nice to see this snail mail stuff on the rise again!

I've read about this program before and recently read about some other thing entirely. I mentioned that it sounded like the postcard program I read about and the member said she's share on that too. I don't remember right now whether that was Jeannie or not, but I missed her post about it. Cool that this is right up your alley. I found out that it's been going on for many years already. I had to read over the beginning of this again, for i was thinking you'd made the picture, but I see that you bought it with the picture on it already. It's quite pretty. Have fun meeting new people in this way.

I'm so excited for you! It seems to take a long time to get started. I didn't want all mine to come at once so I staggered my first five but it's so slow I wish I had sent all five at once because I would have gotten more responses by now. So my recommendation is to send all five right away to speed up responses! But once it's all rolling along, I should get them regularly. I should have five on the way to me right now. That's a great looking postcard!! What fun it will be to see it in the mailbox!
