I am glad I am not allergic to peanuts or peanut butter. It seems to be getting more and more common.
My kids ate it a lot growing up, but I think hubby and I eat it even more now.
Anytime I need a good portion of protein I will have it with crackers, or on toast or even just on a spoon.
My older sister says she has put it in chili if the chili is too runny.
I am not making fun because peanut allergies can kill someone, quickly. I once read about a girl whose boyfriend had eaten peanuts or peanut butter and kissed her. She died.

@LadyDuck My sister claims it is something under the skin of the nuts and beans that causes this.

Oh yes - we know A LOT of kids who are allergic to peanuts (among other foods). I remember one friend we know - his mother ate peanuts and forgot to wash her hands when before she put sunscreen on him - and the poor boy broke out!! That's when they realized he is also topically allergic too.

I do not understand why this is becoming such a problem, but it is.

@much2say I knew one friend that was allergic to everything. Her parents raised bees, she ate local honey which is supposed to help with that. Maybe it saved her life from her asthma and such.

@GardenGerty I don't understand it either. I don't remember that many kids being allergic to anything when I was a kid.

I am also fortunate to be able to eat peanuts and peanut butter. I eat peanut butter either on bread, with a spoon and then chocolate spread with a spoon after eat the peanut butter. I also eat peanut butter with a carrot and have had it with celery. It is very tasty that way.

As kids we made a treat called "ants on a log" or "bugs on a log". You put peanut butter in your celery stick then put raisins on top, to look like bugs on a log.

Ok Heather. What a different game. Do you still eat peanut butter today with celery and raisins on top?

Must be something that you do not care for. I know a lot of people are now claiming gluten allergies or sensitivities. I am not that either.

@GardenGerty There appeared to be a trend towards that some years ago, which I suspect may well be due to the media putting the idea in their mind.

I have not tried it either. If my chili is too thin I just put in a can of refried beans.

Does it get worse with each exposure? Some allergies do.

@GardenGerty It did at one point when I was working in the bakery department of a grocery store. I was fine around the peanut butter cookies. I could even hand them out to customers. Then one morning the fresh out of the oven cookies came out to the floor and my throat started to close up. It really scared me, and I had to stay away from them as much as possible. Unfortunately this allergy was never diagnosed by a doctor. So I had to still deal with the cookies and anything else with peanuts. It wasn't long after that that I got my job in the call center and I have been away from direct exposure to peanuts since.
Normally with peanuts if I accidentally eat them, my whole mouth itches real bad. I can be around them, I can even handle them. I just can't eat them.

Yes, I have a friend who is allergic almost all kind of dried fruits. When we eat together, he always ask if there is some kind of them cause he says that his face would swell and become red.
I like peanuts I always eat it. Also it have proteins as you said, much good fats (if someone is trying to lose fat, the good fats are necessary) and is too healthy (always in moderation).

A lot of times dried fruits are processed with a type of sulfur and many people are allergic to that.

Yes, that is true , it's hard to be allergic to peanuts . My cousin is , and one time she didn't know that a dish has some peanut butter . Once she has swallowed a tablespoon of the dish , she realized it has peanuts . Too late , because in a little while she was already red all over and she quickly take her medicine to it .

No, because it is the peanuts themselves that cause the allergy. I do not know if we have weaker immune systems or what. I have heard that some children can out grow this allergy with some exposure.
