I changed my mind

Good grief! It's almost two months since I last posted anything but a comment here. Feel free to lie and tell me that you missed me.
Through most of January and February, my head wasn't really in the right space for happy posting. I just didn't have the will or the way to burden you with drivel that at times threatened to take an even darker turn than usual. So I took a break, read a lot of interesting things, adopted a cat, had a birthday, and generally just got on with the business of day-to-day living.
Don't blame me, though; blame my brain. It shifted mode and there wasn't much I could do about it. If this happens to you you'll understand what I mean, but in the happy case that it doesn't I'd best explain.
There is some evidence that each of us has a dominant way of thinking. A large majority of us are predominantly logical thinkers, able to draw on experience to recognize and solve small problems but otherwise happy to let others make big decisions and solve big problems on our behalf.
About one in eight people are predominantly creative. These are the artists and writers, inventors and philosophers, as well as the plain ordinary folk (like me) who tend to see almost everything a little differently and are a pain in the neck at meetings.
Finally, fewer than one in twelve people are naturally inclined to favor evaluative thinking. These tend to be decision makers, often long on confidence and short on conscience, and the type most likely to become our CEOs, politicians and serial killers.
Anyhoo, to cut a long story short, my creative brain took a holiday and my logical one took over for a while. I always know when this happens because I'm able to win long chains of Freecell games without raising a sweat. While most folks are pretty content to go through life this way, I sink into a morass of confusion and hopelessness, and no-one wants to read about that.
Happily, my old brain is now back in control and although I'm not much good at Freecell any more the world doesn't seem quite so unfathomable. Fair trade.
Time I started writing again.

No, I won't lie and say I missed you as I've hardly been here myself. Hey, great that you adopted a cat! And maybe as the cooler weather sets in here, we'll both be here more keeping each other company, as the northerners gradually disappear to enjoy their warmer weather.

@valmnz - I didn't really have a choice with the cat. He actually belongs to my daughter but she's recently moved into a no pets flat so 'Podge' will be keeping our family company for a while. He's a very nice cat though and has quickly made himself at home here.

@vandana7 - There's nothing wrong with being classified in this majority. Civilization would never have lasted so long if it wasn't a sensible way to think. Enjoy your normality :)

@troyburns I'm very well thank you Robin, and I'd love to see more of you in the future.

@jaboUK - I've tried not to disappear completely, but it's been hard to stay in touch with everyone. I have so much I want to say, so I'll try to be more visible for a while at least. Hope you're well.

@troyburns nah, i don't see such's harsh. actually 'twas the nicest thingy i could come up with :D
us americans seem to be trail blazers...'n not always'n a good way i fear. i'm hopin' other countries'll learn from all this mess 'n find ways to steer clear from such nonsense. the bullyin', name-callin' 'n downright disregard fer nothin' but empty promises 'n various shenanigans's utterly ridiculous :(

@crazyhorseladycx - Howdy. I've been dropping in now and again to read a few posts and leave a few comments but haven't felt like writing until now. For a while I wondered if I should just scribble a few small personal discussions but that's not really me, is it? By the way, have you had the chance to vote yet?

@WorDazza - It sucks a bit, doesn't it? I'd imagine a creative shutdown for you would still be like being in third gear for most people. My problem is not so much having nothing to say, but rather having nothing nice to say. Best to steer clear of the keyboard when I'm in that sort of mood.

@troyburns I do have those times too when I just feel like offloading in a quite vindictive and nasty fashion. Although this isn't one of those times. Normally I can read a couple of news stories and one of them will trigger something. For a couple of weeks now, nothing!!

@WorDazza - I think your problem is exactly what I've been trying to highlight. It's not that you have NOTHING to say, it's that you natural way of thinking has given way to another, more bitter one. Some of us write according to how we want others to see us - some of us write according to who we are. Does that make sense?

I have this sort of shift come over me. It is usually caused by the weather. I crave sunshine. When we don't have it, I lack energy and I get stuck in my head. When the sun shines, I become far more creative.

@ElizabethWallace - Hi Elizabeth. I've just had a thought - what if your leading political candidates also behaved this way? Would we understand, or condemn?

I am glad your old brain is back. My most creative brain usually comes after I have had surgery and am on pain killers. I do not wish that on you at all.

@GardenGerty - Yikes - that's probably not the best time to be having all sorts of wild imaginings! I hope that's not a common situation for you Gerty.

I did miss you and I too go through these phases where writing becomes a chore not fun and it is good to just let it go for a while.

you know, i grew up making straight A's in school, being classified as "gifted," going to college with hopes of running a company someday. That was my mindset. It was more on the logical, analytical side of things. But I seemed to experience a shift after having children. I'm more creative now. Although, when i look back, I was creative then too. But I never focused on it. I wrote simple poetry and stories. I made up lyrics to songs. But I wanted success and money (now here I am as a stay at home momma). Anyway.... I've pondered this stuff and wondered about my brain and wondered what it really is: more left or more right or somewhere in the middle (kind of like my politics?)

@T_gray - I have lots of new and not-so-new people to catch up with, which should be fun. Forgive me, but I have an overwhelming urge to call you 'Earl'. (Earl gray__T) All the best.

@AkoPinay - How are you finding MyLot so far? Sorry about the long post - I know most people do prefer to read and write much shorter ones, but when I'm in the mood to write something I tend to get a bit carried away.

Yep, been there done that. Free Cell and I don't get along very well. Spider Solitaire even less. However, I'm thriving on Mahjong.
I've never been in the fewer than one in twelve people who favor evaluative thinking - sounds too philosophical to me. However, according to your thesis, I'm in the one in eight - the artists, writers, inventors and philosophers. I'm guilty as a writer, none of the others apply.
I won't lie. I did miss you and I was about to hunt down all those I follow and find out what they were up to and why I haven't seen them in a while. Welcome back.

I didn't miss you as I'm getting used to coming here ... I will say when I saw your name I remembered you as 'old friend' on another writing site. It is nice to see you again. :)
