Life As An Empath

Is a blessing and a curse at the same time. We are frequently misunderstood as shy, anti-social, suffering from anxiety and or depression. Yet this is not the case. We are spiritually attuned individuals, who sense and feel emotional energy fields within our surroundings. Sometimes depending on the strength of the Empath these fields can even be felt at long distances which also includes the internet. This means that if an empath is in the same room as you are and you feel annoyed, nervous, scared, sad, happy etc. The Empath picks up and mirrors these emotions. Unfortunately, this also means that while in large crowds of people the Empath feels the emotion of every single human being around them. With a mass of different emotions flooding the Empath at the same time. The Empath becomes confused on what emotion to feel and even which one inside belongs to them. These causes the Empath to become overwhelmed in their surroundings and appear nervous and or have symptoms that mirror anxiety or panic attacks. Often times, because of this Empaths frequently separate themselves from such situations as much as is possibly allowed. They also keep a respectful distance from others at all times. Not only to prevent the drainage of their own energy but to respect the privacy of others. Empaths feel every emotion depicted within music, Movies, TV Shows and even pictures. Yet, more curiously is the fact that the moment that they come in contact with perfect strangers, such strangers lose the ability of keeping what is on their mind and blurts everything to the empath. The single phrase: "I don't know why I'm telling you all of this." Is the common phrase that an empath will hear several times a day for life. Many times the empath will avoid meeting strangers as much as possible. Imagine being an empath in a classroom with 30 peers about to do oral reports. Take your nerves and fears about getting up in front of all those people and times that by 30. That's the daily life of an empath. Although, it is constantly draining there are plus sides to being an empath as well. When you do meet new people you get to hear fascinating stories that people may not share with you if you weren't. You also, know every time someone is lying, what they are really feeling and have the ability to get them to open up even if they don't want to. I am an Empath, this is my blessing, this is my curse and I wouldn't change it for the world.

Very interesting. I doubt that I'm an empath, though I am anti-social and prone to depression :) Have you always felt this way or is this a trait which has developed as you've grown older?

Very well written, a great article indeed!! What would you call an empath who likes being in group of strangers but not as a participator but more as an observer.

Most likely a grounded Empath. One who has learned to ground themselves from surrounding energy
