Calling all readers! What does your's look like?

Messy shelves mean I read a lot.

Probably most people have taken a selfie at some time. But, did you ever take a shelfie? What is a shelfie, you ask. A shelfie is a photo of your book shelf. It is a new thing that someone started. If you are a reader, your bookshelf probably is not as messy as this one. I am always putting books in and taking them out. I have other book shelves and cases as well. What does your book shelf look like. What do you like to read? Can you ever have enough books?

I can never have enough books. That said my bookshelves are tidy unless we have taken some books out of it.

@akalinus I have lost nearly 2,000 books due to a flood including one worth a lot of money.

I can relate to never having enough books. I had to get rid of a lot because I live in a small place. I keep them in circulation. I give or send them to friends and donate some to my favorite thrift store. Some, I put in the laundry free shelf for others to share.

@pgiblett Sorry about that. I lost books when I moved and the roof collapsed from feet of snow covered ice. And also water damage and a fire. Life is not always nice to books.

My bookshelves are messy too, as is my bedside table, a half-dozen books reside there.

@JamesHxstatic How interesting! I have heard of King's writing book but never read it. I take it you are a writer?

@akalinus I read a lot of espionage novels like those written by John Le Carre and Neslon DeMille. I just started reading Stephen King's "On Writing" which I bought yesterday at a seminar I attended.

I replied yesterday to @TheHorse who asked about "shelfie", posting a photo.

@akalinus This started two years ago on Bubblews. I remember I also wrote a post there, I surely have the text saved on my computer.

@LadyDuck I did not know that it started that long ago. I thought it was a recent thing. I wonder if the term applies to other shelving units. Pantry shelves or linen closet shelves, for example.

After I posted this, I saw two other shelfie related posts on here. But, I first saw it somewhere else. I think I was doing Bing searches and came across it.

I keep mine as neat and clean as possible but there are days when all my books are just scattered around. I love classics (nothing beats them) and I haven't gone digital (not totally anyway) cause I'm still crazy about the "new-book" smell.

I try to categorize my shelves by author (Jane Austen, Brönte sisters, Agatha Christie). But I'm always pulling out my favorites, so they don't stay organized.

I don't have anywhere to put my books so they sit in a box.

I am glad someone else also has a messy book shelf. Was beginning to think I was the only one.

We are big readers at our house and have tons of books, but they are neatly put in our bookcases. We have also given away hundreds of books over the years.

That's great. It is good to keep books circulating. They are more valuable when someone is reading them.

I am not good at taking pictures on my tablet, but my bookcases are crammed and I have seven of them. They are organized in various ways. One bookcase is all classic literature, one is books that deal with everything I studied from teaching, to nursing to counseling. One has current bestsellers and one has health related books. I have a lot of material to read and maybe write about one day.

@akalinus Sometimes I can read two or three but lately I am lucky if I can read one at a time. If I were to describe myself I am a reader who savers the books I read.

@marky7 I don't read them together. I have one upstairs and one downstairs.

I also save books for references. I know we have technology but it might not always be around. My books are not that organized except for the stack of unread books I haven't gotten to yet. I can only read two or three books at a time.

It is always good to have unread books. It would be terrible to not have anything new to read.

There is just something special about books and reading. Each book is a new adventure lived through someone else's eyes. It is like watching a movie but with extra layers of richness added.

its one of those proud treasures that never go old !! it lasts forever as you can read them whenever you feel like . And the feeling of reading paper books is something only a book lover would understand .

Yes, our books are treasures. They will be there for us if something happens so there is no more internet or technology. I can fall asleep with a book but not a computer. I can take a book to read while waiting for appointments.

My shelfie
I actually have taken shelfies in the past. I have two books shelves that are over flowing with books. A lot of them are two rows deep so you can only see the titles in the front. My children have 3 book shelves of their own. I tried to fit what I could of mine in the photo but in the hallway where they are there isn't much room to back up to get a good picture. You can at least get an idea of what my bookshelf looks like from what is in my photo. I have way to many books but one can never really have to many :)

My book shelf is so neat and organized people can tell I don't read the books much. They basically just stay in the shelf for years with hardly any in/out movement. Should any one book is moved, it would be very easy for me to spot.

An unread book is just a blob of paper. Take one of those books out and read it. You will find a new world.
