The Impromptu Music War

It was an impromptu music war tonight, where my girlfriend and I, with extremely different musical tastes, play songs for each other until one of us "wins" by playing something out of character, and unexpected. These usually go on for hours, often becoming all-nighters.
Her sample: "Knock Three Times" by Tony Orlando and Dawn," "Hurt" (Johnny Cash version,) "Gangsta's Paradise" by Coolio, "Twisted" by Keith Sweat, "I'll be There" by The Jackson 5.
My sample: "Warlock" by Skinny Puppy, "Down in It" by Nine Inch Nails," "The Message" by Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five (R.I.P.Cowboy,) "If You Were Here Tonight" by Alexander O'Neal, "Life Takes a Life" by Jon Butcher Axis.
I honestly thought "Ain't Talking bout Love" by Van Halen would do it, but, no. I thought The Brothers Johnson's "Strawberry Letter 23" would do it, but no. She thought Smokey Mountain Rain" by Ronnie Milsaps would win, but, not gonna happen.
I won with, believe it or not, "West End Girls" by Pet Shop Boy's (I have no idea, other than she was surprised I like them. We got on a "gay disco band" tangent and I went with The Boy's.)
I honestly would never have guessed I'd win one of these with the grooviness that is Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe, but you never know. Once the music war starts, it takes on a life of it's own. This one certainly did.

I don't consider that a "left field" song for you at all, given that I've never heard you say "I hate 80's synth/pop/new wave music."
And that is a good song. Thanks for posting it, I hadn't heard it in years.

For some reason she didn't think I like them. It's a weak win, but I'll take it.

I'm still surprised that I won with that, honestly.

I don't know who I'd be rootin' for . . . I like a lot of music and can go for both sides. But oh my gosh I loved Pet Shop Boys back in their time - and I loved West End Girls that I could hear it over and over and never get sick of it.
