mummy's day

It was Mothering Sunday in the UK yesterday which meant that my Facebook was plastered with images of flowers, chocolates and cards, families eating food in the pub and 'thank you' messages to Mummies for being amazing and to children for being a joy to parent.
It's a bit like Valentine's Day really, isn't it? We acknowledge how wonderful our Mum is, smother her in love, with breakfast in bed, beautiful gifts and lovey-dovey wordage and then continue as normal the next day, with arguments, grumbles and requesting a 'mum-taxi' to some distant place.
Of course, I sent my Mumsy a card. I made it, in the style of seven year old child. But I love my Mummy every single day, not just on Mothering Sunday. I don't feel the need to tell her via Facebook; I speak to her on the phone instead.
Gosh, I am such a misery guts sometimes!

I always think it's quite sad when you see families in the pub on Mother's Day with the little old dear who has obviously just been 'let out' for the day. I often wonder how often she sees the family throughout the rest of the year. Birthday, Christmas maybe??
I live 150 miles from my mother but I know I see her more often than a lot of people I know whose mothers live a few miles away.

With one brother in Wales, one in Central Europe, and me and my other brother being sixty miles from Mumsy {and each other}, my mum's contact with at least two of her children {who happen to be the only two who have provided grandchildren for her} is twice or thrice yearly only. But they talk on the phone and she's close to all of us. We get together when it's convenient though, not simply because it's Mothering Sunday!

@WorDazza True. I only live an hours drive from Father and I haven't seen him for nine years. :)

Mumsy had a meal with two of her friends, made by one of their daughters. I think she was happy with that. Her birthday always falls near Mothering Sunday so she never expects two gifts!
