Golf or Bikes

Listening to the radio and between music tracks the announcer was saying that in the UK the number of people who play golf has dropped and that golf clubs were closing down. He thought the reason might be that the players were swapping their clubs and sweaters for bikes and lycra.
A quick look online and sure enough, in England the numbers playing had dropped by 20%, in a decade, and little less in Scotland, the home of the game.
It sounded as if the recession of 2008/09 had a lot to do with it, as people cut back on luxury. The clubs dropped prices, but it seems business didn't pick up and the one time waiting lists to join have now become member vacancies.
I didn't find anything about golfers becoming cyclists, beyond the already reported big increase in cycling number.

Golf is fun, but I'd go with bikes.

Biking has got to be more fun than golfing surely? I would think a tad bit more affordable too?
