Eagles Hit By Second Tragedy This Year

Sometimes bands are just "snake bit." In 2015 Motörhead lost two members, as did Three Dog Night. In January two former members of Jeferson Airplane died on the same day. In January Glenn Frey, co-founder and "quarterback" (per Don Henley) of the Eagles, died from complications of pneumonia and intestinal surgery. Today we hear the sad news that Lana Meisner, the wife of original Eagles bassist Randy Meisner, was killed in an accidental shooting at their house in L.A. The L.A. police issued a statement that said Mrs. Meisner was killed Sunday (March 6) when a loaded rifle she was moving accidentally discharged. They have ruled that no foul play was involved, despite the fact that the police had been called to the residence earlier in the day for a domestic abuse complaint. Meisner's children from his first marriage have long accused Lana of manipulating Randy, who's had a history of drug and alcohol issues, in order to keep him "under control" and so she could have access to his royalties from his days in the Eagles. No doubt there will be considerable mud slinging from them in the days and weeks to come, and that's also quite sad. For now, we should only think of Randy Meisner, who was taken to the hospital "emotionally distraught" after his wife's death. Lana Meisner was 63.
