Vertical Aircraft

United States
March 7, 2016 10:15pm CST
The United States military has revealed plans to build an aircraft capable of taking off vertically. "Isn't that called a helicopter?" you might ask. (That was my initial query.) But this craft will be unmanned, faster than a helicopter and fuel efficient, thanks to a hybrid engine. You can learn about the "Lightning Strike" here: This aircraft will obviously use a lot less space for takeoff, what are some other advantages?
The Pentagon has awarded a contract to Aurora Flight Sciences Corporation to build a vertical takeoff concept aircraft called LightningStrike.

That's great. Lifting needs so much power I don't think it is a good idea, but who knows what will happen next.

That's true, it does take a lot of power. I wonder how long it took to engineer this.

I thought there was already an aircraft similar to that in the 80s!

There might have been. I'll have to research that. Maybe this one will be faster.

Another type of DRONE. Another advantage is -- no need to hire and pay a Pilot
