Do you have writing ambitions beyond online sites?

Having written poetry and won or placed in some state poetry association contests a few years ago, I want to do more. I am working on some short story ideas currently and really want to do more than write online. There are many good (legitimate) contests that offer publication and prizes.
I have read some references here from others who write or wish to and am wondering how many of us are pursuing or wanting to pursue writing stories, commentary/essays or even novels?

Yes. I've actually had poetry and one short story published by small press periodicals and I've self-published a short-story and a chapbook of poetry. I'm also shopping around various short stories to magazines. Wish me luck. I seem to like them a whole lot more than various editors do.

I hope your daughter does that. There is a legitimate site called winningwriters.com, international in scope, that lists contests, both free ones and some you pay a fee to enter. They list many contests there and even recommend some.

I'm always writing - and work as a freelancer for several magazines and websites. I don't make a lot of money but I love it. I am also working on a novel and a series of Kindle travel books. I wish you success, James. It's fun and rewarding.

@JamesHxstatic Probably on Bubblews. I don't make much money with it - still working part time in a store - but I do enjoy it.

I wish you success with your writing ambitions. Unfortunately I don't feel qualified enough to enter any written work in contests etc

I am doing poetry in my leisure. Now, its my ambition as well as earning from poetry. But don't know how to sell it.

Well, you never know. If you have a compelling story, it could be a great one.

Actually, I did much better when I sold my small contributions to magazines. Even with the manual typewriter with carbon copies and restarts, I sold articles to them. When a magazine buys your piece, it is done. You don't have to be rated against someone else. They pay you and it is history.

Yes, you know I do. I just haven't made any real effort though. I need to reach that point. I think it's neat that both you and Anne enjoy writing and creativity.

I was hired to write a book about how to build a German language program in public schools by the German government in the early 1990's. I also updated the book and wrote one about teaching French two years ago. I am currently writing a nonfiction book on how high school students can earn more money in scholarships and grants. After this one is published I am done writing books. I want to work on helping to increase the number of Monarch Butterflies in the wild.

I do freelance writing now and would like to do some creative writing. I've written poetry and songs, but I'd like to do some bigger projects like a novel or musical.
