Why is it so hard to be resigned?

I don't know why I have such a hard time being resigned to my inevitable future. Certain things just aren't meant to be, and there's nothing I can do to change it, so why worry about it? I tell myself that it isn't that bad; I have a set routine, a good paying cake job to go to every day, a good home, etc. At least I won't have worries and plans, and being disappointed when things don't work out. The prospects are really boring, but I've been a stick-in-the-mud for 36 years already, so this shouldn't be any different. I think my problem is that before at least there was a hope in the back of my mind that I would get out of the rut eventually. Now there's no chance, at least for the next two years. Plus, I'm upset at the looming breakup of my family. But I know there's nothing I can do about it, they have their own lives to lead and their own decisions to make, and I know I've made my own share of stupid decisions in my life. Actually, that could be the catalyst for me to move on, so I should be happy, or at least it should be easier to be resigned to a future I have no control over. But why is it so hard to accept?

That's true. I guess I just feel I've been in a rut all my life.

I hope you can feel better about things somehow. While there may be some things you have no control over. What are the things you can control? Work on those. Any way, take care.

things can change and we can make some changes ourselves - hopefully things will get better for, and for me for that matter - good luck

Right now, I'm not in a position to make any changes myself, so I just have to go with the flow, and take each day as it comes. I hope things get better for you, too.

I am a positive thinker and you are not, at least you don't think like one. If you are stuck for the next two years I hope when its over you have a plan already in place. YOU are the one who will make or break YOU. Start thinking positive.

You are right, I'm not a positive thinker. I don't even know how to start thinking positively.

@connierebel you don't have to buy this book, you can find it in the library. You should read it...or look up positive thinking on line...It really can change your life.

I'm sorry things aren't going so well for you. Life seems to go in cycles sometimes.

Thank you. Yes, it does go in cycles. I'll get through it, but I wish it was easier. The emotional side of me doesn't agree with the practical side.

You may think that you can't make changes but could it be just because you "don't want to take any risks?"
