A little over a week later, I was called and told that my reduction was "green lighted" and to come in and we'd get started. This was late April or early May of 1998.
I went in for the appointment and he explained exactly what would happen.
Now, he was a busy man, so the surgery was scheduled for early July, the 8th.
My mother was a bit upset that she was in Colorado while I was having it, but I was fine with it.
I had started in April to build up my blood supply so that, hopefully I wouldn't need a transfusion. I did this by taking both Vitamin C and iron - this causes the iron to attach to organs rather than go out. It can damage the organs in the long run, but I wasn't doing it in the long run.
The doctor suggested I go in and "pre-transfus" for myself. This means I went in and they took the equivalent of 2 units of blood about a week before the surgery.
to be continued...

Wow how can one take in blood? I find that astounding.

Building up your iron and also doing an autonomic transfusion were both good ideas.

As I told @TiarasOceanView - I'll have to do a separate post on that.
