Do you believe in miracles?

The school was over by 12 PM that day. I had forgotten to inform my mother to pick me up by noon as usually my school ends by four. I was seven years old. My friends started leaving the campus one by one. By 2 Pm I was all alone on the campus. I could have gone to the school office and informed them. But I was too naive to have thought out such practical solutions. I hoisted my bag and kept waiting near the school gate. There was an auto driver staring at me from time to time. Strangely I wasn't afraid of him. After seeing me loitering around for nearly twenty minutes, he came near me and asked me why I hadn't gone home yet. I explained I didn't inform my mother about leaving early and there was no telephone at our house. He asked me the home address. I told him the locality. He drove me home with some address instructions from me. He dropped me in front of the house and asked me to go inside. I rang the doorbell and there was no one at home. I had to pay the auto driver too and I had no money. I asked him to drop me at a neighbor's place and he did. When I got some money from that neighbor aunty and tried to pay him, he wouldn't accept. He left after making sure, I knew my neighbors well. Apparently someone had informed my mother about the half day schedule and she had gone to the school to pick me up. Terrified I wasn't there, she was coming to our house in such panic along the street when I ran to her and told her what had happened. She was so relieved that I was safe and horrified too that I trusted a total stranger! She kept telling me that it was miracle that I came home safe. I never saw that driver again near my school. Had he not noticed me, I don't know what would have happened that day. There is no explanation for some things! Do you believe in miracles? Image: ahintofeverything

I don't believe in miracles, but I believe in human kindness as shown by that driver.

@Scindhia Sorry, no. I've experienced lucky things happening but I wouldn't call them miracles.

@jaboUK Have you never experienced a miracle before, even if it was a small thing?

I don't believe in miracles but I do believe in coincidence. Sometimes when we can't see any explanation it's because we aren't looking hard enough.

@Scindhia - Yes I do. But that doesn't mean that remarkable things can't happen. Sometimes,we just don't know enough to understand how they happened.

@troyburns Thats a practical way of looking at things. Now I'm curious. Do you believe in God?

@troyburns But not everything has an explanation. Do you really think everything can be rationalized?

@Scindhia there is nothing unnatural or unscientific about this event. it was a good man who saw a child in distress. How is that miraculous?

@MsTickle I assumed you were making a general statement in your previous comment.

I wouldn't expect a 7 year old child to be responsible for telling their mother that school had an early dismissal. You and your mother were both lucky that the stranger was kind and helpful.

My mother was pale and crying when she saw me. I can now understand how terrified she must have been to know that I was not at school. Thank God for random kindness!

What a kind man to look after you so kindly. He might have been just as anxious that his motives would be suspected. I'm glad it all ended well.

@JudyEv With so many bad things happening around us, we end up suspecting even good people. How sad is that?

@Scindhia It is very sad. My husband loves children but is almost too scared to go anywhere near any nowadays.

wow. Yes, I too believe in miracles. When it happens, we never have any explanation to that.

I don't know if I would classify that as miracle or if I believe in them, but the auto driver was certainly a kind person.
