Television - My babysitter!

I have no children, so please understand that I'm talking about me! Growing up, I was a latch key child. My parents worked so I'd let myself into the house after school and I had to stay indoors until my parents arrived home. And so, television became my babysitter and the characters on different shows became my best friends.
Today, now that I'm living alone again, I've reverted back to the comfort of having the TV on most of the time so there's some sound in the house with me and I don't feel so all alone. But I find that, more often than not, the TV has become just background noise. I'll have a show on, but never really pay attention to it and before I know it, it's over and something else is on that I'm not even aware of! lol
I do shut it off when I read. I love the silence. Or sometimes I'll put on classical music as a background to reading.
But it cracks me up that I have returned to my childhood in neading the television to keep me company. lol

I have the tv on all day too just for company and background noise. It's a great way to beat a very quiet house.

I need noise too when I work. Right now my older son is staying with me and he is always watching television and with it just on the other side of the doorway to my office, it's my constant companion, whether I like what he's watching or not.
Television was my addiction growing up. Those characters were also my best friends.

Yes, it was my teacher, too. I never realized it until I noticed one day that I watched a lot of shows to see how people set and decorated their tables so I could do likewise! lol

I enjoy having favorite shows in the background so I hear voices that I recognize. Feels like I have company. :)

The good thing is that you read, write and do things to keep busy, right? It is ironic to go back to needing the tv for company again. I'm like you about tv being my background sound. When Skip stayed gone on the truck ... it made all the difference, so I understand. I'm so sorry you are alone. Do you have a pet?

I have a cat and she's great company. While we're still in the house, she goes upstairs a lot to sleep. Once we move, we'll only be in two rooms, so I suspect I will see her most of the day. I'll also have great views out my windows and since I'll be up high where no one can see inside, I won't need curtains, so I may not need the TV as much. It will be interesting to see how that goes. :)

@CRK109 That sounds interesting to be high up enough not to need curtains ... watch the sky ... clouds while you soak in the tub
