Do You Make Your Bed Every Day?

United States
March 13, 2016 8:02am CST
One habit I got into a long time ago was to make my bed every day. It's something I do every morning before I leave my bedroom. I just hate having a messy bed and love to crawl into my nice, tidy bed at night. Of course it's easy for me because I don't have anyone I share my bed with so there isn't another person to worry about when I get up. So that's my question for today....do you make your bed every day?

Yes, I learned years ago that the coverings were meant to keep dust from off the sheets, pillows and blankets. So of course, I make it when I get up.

My mother instilled bed making from when I was a child so even now I feel guilty if I let it go and don't make it

@Marilynda1225 It's a habit and pretty easy. I don't understand not making the bed.

I dont. I want to, because it looks so nice, but mostly I want to air out the sheets and open the window and let the sun shine on them lolz

I used to do my bed every day, but this week I wasn't feeling that great and did skip a few days.

Whoever gets up last has to make the bed then the other one is allowed to criticise.

No, I flip the covers down so it airs out. If I think of it later I make it later. I am about to make it now so it will be ready for bedtime!

It's funny really isn't it? Sometimes it may not get until just before bedtime. At that point I might as well not bother.

@JudyEv I need the covers all straight before I get into it. But not tucked in. No hospital corners here.

I'm a slacker and I don't. I really should because, like you said, it is nice to crawl into a nice tidy bed at the end of the day.

It's something we'll do occasionally, but not everyday.

I used to, but I haven't lately though. I am going to have to start again, though, as the blankets are all in disarray and I need to keep them straightened. I had read somewhere and not sure where, that we shouldn't make it, becasue of the dust mites. Now, I am not sure why, and what it really said, but I do remember seeing that awhile back.

@Marilynda1225 I don't exzctly know where I read the article, but once I did read it, I decided that I wouldn't make it again, but leave it unmade but straighten it up a bit, so I can just putll the covers up on me when I get into bed.

That's interesting as I never thought much about the dust mites

Yes, I do make it everyday. I feel like if I don't , it is like not getting dressed. It is a part of my morning routine.

No but I really should and I have tried before. I do try and straighten it up but I usually take a nap everyday.

@Marilynda1225 I do nap in my recliner sometimes but then there are times when I am really hurting and the only way I can get comfortable is laying bed.

I only asked this because my grandchildren will leave their bed messy and climb right into it at night. Maybe it's a kid thing?

Haha. The answer is 'sometimes' because we have this joke that whoever gets up last makes the bed - which sometimes sees us deciding to get up then trying to fly out of bed to be first! But mostly we get up at the same time and make the bed between us. I know you're supposed to let it air - at least that's what we were taught in home science in school - but we don't bother.

I do like it to be tidy and neat so yes- I make it unless I'm not feeling well or think I may have a nap if I didn't sleep well.

Oh I hate hospital corners. The first thing I do in a hotel is yank all the covers out so they won't be tight and pressing down on my feet!

@paigea Funny, but I kick them out too, but I love a crisply made bed!

I get up for work before my girlfriend, so I never make my bed during the weekdays. She'll usually make it once she gets up an hour later. On weekends, when we both usually get up at the same time, I'll make the bed.

@Marilynda1225 I would never have it any other way! It is something we had the boys learn early on. They are all grown and still make their beds daily. Isn't a made bed more inviting to climb into at night?

I have started doing it, initially my maid used to do it for me, but when I saw that my kids too leave it untidy because they know that she'll do it. I started making my own bed because if I want my kids to do this I'll have to practice doing it myself first. To set an example to have to step in first. Now they do straighten things up a little, whatever their little hands are capable of.

How thoughtful to set that example. We had to make our own beds as kids even though the housekeeper made my parents' bed.
