How much of a fan are you?

Some products have some serious followers. These fans would go into great length to show their support. Before the latest iPhone was launched, for instance, Apple enthusiasts would line up in front of the store hours or even days before the store opened. My own son stayed overnight in front of a Foot Locker store few years ago. He and other basketball fans were eagerly waiting to get their hands on much anticipated Air Jordan shoes of certain rare and limited edition re-issued style.
Few months ago, In-N-Out Burger set up a pop-up store down here. The hugely popular American burger chain does not have a store in Australia. But that does not stop its popularity to reach all the way Down Under. The pop-up store sold out of burgers half an hour before the store even opened!
In-N-Out enthusiasts were lining up in front of the pop-up store hours before its opening hour. Staff assessing the situation quickly implemented a one-burger-per-person policy. Not only that, they were also handing out wristbands to people in the queue - they ran out of wristbands before opening time. Needless to say, there were a lot of terribly disappointed people who had been in queue for hours around the block but didn't get a wristband. They missed out on the burgers as only those lucky enough to get their hands on the wristbands would get them.

I was always amazed at the iPhone craze. It seems absurd that someone would pay £500 for a mobile, then 6 months later want to spend £600 to get the latest model, but we both know that it happens. As for queueing so long for a burger, it totally defies logic.

@ElizabethWallace Sales staff really love the word "obsolete" as a prelude to trying to sell you the latest model.

I once bought a new sound system for music. A few months later one of the speakers had an issue. I took it in for repair. The saleman told me the system was out of date, and I needed to buy a new one. I told him he was nuts and to just fix the speaker!

@Asylum Yup. It is in their sales handbook. I don't buy into the hype. I use all appliances and technology as tools. If they still work, they do not get replaced.

Now this seems nutso to me- why wouldn't they have enough burgers if they were opening up shop? Weird! And what's a pop-up store? I've been hearing this term quite a bit! :)

@MarymargII Yes, I think that's probably why... Not sure if they're going to open up a store all the way down here at all. Even in the States where it's originated, In-N-Out Burger is not available nationwide - mostly just in California.

@sishy7 Oh that's what I didn't know - why do they do that? Is it just to feel out the response?

I've never waited in line for anything like that before, but we get videos and movies that can't be sold until after midnight, certain days of the year. And usually no one comes in to buy any of them, but once in awhile kids will. A while ago, about six to eight young men were waiting for over an hour. I thought they were just loitering, but once midnight came and went, they all wanted to buy certain koshi dolls for a particular game. There weren't enough to go around and all the items desired weren't even in the computer correctly. I was quite surprised that guys were interested in that specific item.

@sishy7 They are used some way in the game, similar to having actual bats or other paraphernalia when doing wifi sports.

I remember a case when new iPhone was released few years ago... The first person in line was interviewed by a national TV station as he walked out of the store with his new gadget. He was so excited, opened the box in front of the camera, and accidentally dropped the phone!

I guess I'm not a fan of anything really. I don't line up at all, except maybe for a movie, but then, the line is only five or six people long. I do buy products from the same companies over and over, but I just get what I need when I want to, no lines.

I do not have that patience to wait in line for a certain product. Maybe I will just come when there is less people waiting for it.

I'm not a fan of any brand and I don't jump on a bandwagon.

I have never been the type to "stand outside in a line all night" to get one of the newest products. Not that I've never been a fan of something, but not so much products.

I'm not fantatic enough to queue up for hypes. When the hello kitty MacDonalds craze came to Singapore, people got hurt lining up for the dolls - silly in my view.
