Polar Plunge

The State where I am now living has what they call a Polar Plunge.
People go into the lake in the winter time and freeze at least I would freeze but of course you wouldn't catch me doing this.
They have 20 different events over 3 months to raise money for such as volleyball, special olympics, shred a thon and many others.
What do you think is it something you would do?

It's certainly something I would NOT do! We do have many people here who go for a swim in the sea on Christmas Day (when the sea is actually rather warmer than the air, so I'm told that the agony is in getting out rather than staying in!) and one of our local swimming clubs also has a mid-winter swim (in the river, which would be much colder than the sea).

@jaboUK The sea around the UK (especially in the West) is warmed by the Gulf Stream and is at a pretty constant temperature all year round. Of course, in the shallows it can be warmer in the summer but in the winter it tends to be quite a bit warmer than the air. Rivers tend to be not a lot warmer than the surrounding air, so are usually colder in the winter than the sea.

@allknowing At least I have enough sense to paint it yellow instead of blue.

@Asylum It is not the colour of Copper Sulphate but its effect on the mangoes. They turn yellow!!!

They started this in my community a few years ago and every year my husband says he wants to do it. I am glad he doesn't, I don't know if his health can handle it and there is no way I would do this, I don't even like going swimming at the beginning of the season because the water is so cold.

No way would anyone get me in that frigid water. I prefer my water nice and warm and headed towards downright hot.

@Marcyaz Well, maybe for a bath, but for swimming I prefer lukewarm, not too hot and not too cold. I have swam in pools/lakes where the water was too warm, I had to keep splashing my face to keep cool and as for going for a good swim? Forget it, too warm after a short while.

I think it is great that you are doing that. However, it is not something I would ever try.

I think after a LOT of hesitation, I would eventually do it.

Where we used to live, they had a polar plunge in the swimming pool of our apartments. It was about 2 weeks ago. There is no way I would do it because first, I can't swim and second, I can't stand the cold. But I would sponsor someone who would do it.

No way, I'm a whimp, it has to be nice and warm outside before I get into the water.

No! I rarely even go into the relatively cool water of the Pacific, here in Laguna Beach, CA, because I think it is too cold for me. I know I would not do anything like that!
