CCTV.s installed in homes

A friend of mine has installed a CCTV in her mother-in-law's home. Her mother-in-law lives alone with a maid. Apparently there are issues between the two and the two cannot get along. My friend thinks it is her mother-in-law who is the main cause.
After the installation things seem to have eased out a bit.
I am personally not in favour of such surveillance as I feel those who are being watched need to be on their guard all the time. I would rather that they breathe easy and sort out issues some other way.
What is your take on this?

Sometimes I feel such surveillance is necessary but as you say it depends on circumstances. Even my maid who no longer worked for me but helped me occasionally did that to me.

Waste of money. If it's for security purpose since there are only two of them living in that house, that's fine.
But the purpose for the installation is a shallow one.

May be you are right. I should have been to keep a watch on robbers for instance.
