Got a phone call from my sister yesterday, it was a good news. Our 5-year old nephew is the top of his class. While me and my sister are having our phone convo, he suddenly asked me what will i be giving him as my gift, for being a good boy and all that. As one "generous" aunt of his, I told him of buying that happy meal and have the kung fu panda toy as his gift. Then he reminded me of my long overdue Christmas gift, the boy has one good memory eh, so i said okay, lol. So this morning, after i had my bank transaction, I went to the bookstore and check if i can buy something for him, and...yes, I saw not just one but four books for his age and they are on SALE!. Too much of this frugal aunt of his Now, I am thinking, if i will just hand the gift to him with the paper bag or will I still wrap it with something...'fancy". What do you think? What is your ideal gift for a kid? Do you give books too as a gift?

I always like to give books as gift, especially to kids. I haven't been wrapping gifts with gift wrapping paper for quite some time, as I think it's not so environmental friendly, unless I really need to. I think a paper bag is good, perhaps with a handmade card attached to it? I might use yarn to make something and attach to the paper bag, and I think it'll look nice too. I read that it's an alternative idea to use fabric to wrap the gift, as the fabric can be reused. On my son's birthday this year, I put his gifts inside a box, and wrapped with fabric. I used another fabric to tie a ribbon. He was happy with it.

Congrats on having a bright nephew! Memory is a sign of intelligence. I give my grandchildren books, toys, science products, etc. They are both very bright.

I am always giving books as gifts but I think that is because I love books. I've begun to wonder if the recipients feel the same way. Congratulations to your nephew. I'm sure he will love his gift.

I think you should wrap it with a fancy covering because I think books are precious gifts for they stimulate and open a child's imagination. I would definitely give books to kids whom I see are very happy reading. Some children loves to read because they are brought to another exciting world, assuming the child fully understands what he is reading. Ideal gifts for kids would be anything that matches their indivdual interests.

I usually give books or school supplies as a gift. I rarely give toys. It would be better if you will wrap them because wrapped gifts are very pleasing to kids eyes.

You can be creative on how you present the gift to your nephew so that he will be surprised. You can use the same paper bag but maybe try to add your personal touch to it? :) Congratulations on your nephew!

Always books. I don't give toys because it will just be destroyed. An educational gift, like a book, is an ideal one. Also, it is the best gift I think for brilliant boy.
