Ashtrays

Okay now!!! Well here is a small post about ashtrays. I smoke so I have a few ashtrays around the house, but have you ever went to someone’s house that you know does not smoke but has ashtrays? I have and I think it is actually funny in a way. Maybe some people find ash trays to be decorative or something. I find them useful. if I wind up quitting smoking, then I will throw all my ashtrays away. No need to have them laying around the house. As for company that might smoke, well, I don’t know if I will maybe keep one and put it away when it’s not in use.
What’s your take on this? I know, another lame post, but hey, I think this one is better than my some other posts I have made. . I have seen some people that do not smoke not only have ashtrays in their home, but put candy in them for either themselves or company. Maybe that’s what they use them for. I would think a nice candy dish would be better. Anyway, before I go on and on about this. Not that there is much more I can say about it. So, let me know what you think and feel about this.

Actually, an interesting discussion in a subtle way. I have only one ashtray. It's next to my desk, where I sometime take a few puffs while on computer. If I totally quite smoking, I might use ashtrays for coins, guitar picks, or candy. But I have other vessels for such purposes. My question: Are there still nonsmokers who allow others to smoke in their houses? Back in the day (my childhood), smoking was a part of TV shows, playing Monopoly or bridge, post-dinner conversation, and watching TV. Even driving.

I'm not a smoker and never have been. I'm not one against it either, if someone wants to smoke than that up to them. No ashtrays around here lol.

@kevin1877uk Yes I would and I am actually trying to. I thought I might be able to go cold turkey, but I thought about that and now I think cutting down might be a better option for me.

We don't own any ash trays (no one smokes) but that's interesting that those who don't smoke own them too!

@inertia4 It'd be odd if they purchased the ash tray. If its free understandable.

@infatuatedbby Well, some are gifts from when people go away on vacation. Some people had them because they might have smoked once.

I no longer smoke Inertia, but I am addicted now to the nico gum.
Very bad stuff tho it is better than those vape things I bought.
Wasted money on those.
They tore up my throat.
Yeah I dont have any ash trays in my house, as the sight of them would make me smoke.
Dont know about other people that have them as you say maybe decoration lolz
Long time no see, nice to see you here again.
I am not getting everyones discussion so trying to find them as I can.

@inertia4 - I used a vape pen. I was two weeks away from a year smoke free. Got really stressed one day and bought a pack, but I'm starting to vape again.

We neve kept ashtrays around and those who smoked were expected to go out in the garden.

I only smoke outside but I do have one ashtray out front and one in the back. If and when I quit I will leave them because I do have friends that smoke, so they will need them. As for non smokers with them-I don't have a clue! Lol.

I don't smoke and if I did and quit I would not keep ash trays. Smokers would need to step outside, I think.

@JamesHxstatic It is a bad habit, I agree. But it is not an easy one to quit. I know that I have to get the bull by the horns and just quit and suffer the withdrawals. I will get there. I fight this daily. But like I said, I will not give up the fight. I will not let smoking kill me, I will kill smoking.

I don't smoke, but I do have one outside for my mother. She did try to quit, but started again. Now I think she has quit again hopefully.

I never kept ashtrays around. If they wanted to be courteous, they'd offer to go outside. I'd find something to use as an ashtray so they wouldn't have to, but it would be nice if they at least offer.

@inertia4 - I would hope they'd at least ask first. I even asked if it was OK to smoke in my own house.

@teamfreak16 My house I don't ask. I just smoke. But I would always go outside in someone else's house. it's just respectful.

I have never known anyone collect them that didn't smoke, but my aunt collected walking sticks but she didn't need one so I suppose that's the same principle.

There is such a thing about smoking now and I prefer people do not smoke in the house. They are more than welcome to smoke outside. I do smoke myself but only in my study which is off bounds to anyone else. We have a few ashtrays hanging about but I could not tell you where they are in the house as they are never used.

My Godfather has a collection of ashtrays but he don't smoke also, It is a souvenir item every place he went to visit here and abroad, he used to keep them displayed at his living room
