Birthdate as your Password ?

India
March 17, 2016 5:11pm CST
Hi, Not strange, but I have seen people using their birth date as their passwords. Recently I came across 3 colleagues - who used their birth date as their passwords. I don't know how safe it is. But it was not hard for me to get once's birth date of my colleagues. It is on login portal. Okay you might be thinking how I got a clue they were using that password. 1 Mobile Banking ask for 6 digit number 2 It would be very rare to see a member using 89 or 91 as their last 2 digit. 3 Movement of fingers on phone. 4 You should not book your tickets through your phone in front of strangers lol ( Off course she tried to hide it -- but then fingers motion gave me a hint. ) 4 out of 5 accepted that they use birth date as their password. So do you use your birth date in your password ? Have you ever used it ? Do you think it is safe ? I am using birth date as password but it's not mine

It's obviously not very safe if you have guessed that 3 of your colleagues were using theirs. I would never use mine.

Ridiculous if anyone does that. Passwords should be such that no clues are thrown around it.

Yes, I am using it as my password along with my intitials. I have never had trouble with anyone trying to figure it out. It seems that using it is easier than trying to figure out what to use for my password.

I would never use my birth date for my password, but using another's is a good move. Of course when you change your password (you should change passwords, especially for sites like your banking site) occasionally, just to be safe, then you would have to find anther's birth date..lol (One good thing about that, you won't forget your friend's/relative's birthday. )

@UR_Forever_Raja Ah, but you can use your other friend's or relative's birthdays as well, and still keep your one crush

I would never use my birthday or any of my family member's birthdays as a password. Too risky.

In my experience, anyone who knows you well enough could guess a birth date of yours, or anyone else's that you would be close to, so using a birthdate isn't safe at all. Also, I've been told to vary up the characters (so use lower case letters, upper case, numbers, AND special characters), to make it safer.. So.. ^_^

Fair enough, But how about a birth date of a secret crush Note - Mobile banking doesn't allow you to use characters and special characters.

@Sei_Ryoku Well it is well protected. You can access your account only from a registered mobile number + phone. If you try to download banking app in another phone and try attach my account details, you won't be allowed. m-pin is valid for your mobile only Yes she was publicly known, but yes she was my secret crush... No one knows her name... except one guy ... oh wait ... now it's 2 ..... . . . Oh wait it's 3 . . . . . Oh my god , 145 people knows about it... . . . . . Oh well it's not secret any more.

@UR_Forever_Raja I find that unfortunate because in my opinion banking (mobile or otherwise) is one of the things you'd want really well protected... (If you're like me you don't have a "secret" crush - you have a crush that everyone knows about, because you make it so obvious )

Nope I have not used my birth date as my password ever and do not now either. I believe it is not safe to use. If you are on more than one site you should use different passwords for each site in case of a hacker.

Haha that works. I think that is a bad idea ans does not seem very secure. I lersonally mix up numbers and letters and symbols and that is my password. I seem to constantly forget them though.

Yes that is the reason I stopped using mixed passwords. Those are highly secure and highly forgettable

You keep forgetting I suffer from something that is unknown - but I cannot get numbers easily. So I do not use any numbers for my passwords.... always safer to use something that you can remember right? Else, my inbox will be filled with those "Recover My Password" links. I find it really confusing when people remember their numerical passwords correct. The few places where they do not allow anything else but numbers, I keep messing up things. I have lost two Debit Cards just because they do not allow me to use text I think I will call in @vandana07 and if she thinks it right, I should file a law suite against the banks for this.

@UR_Forever_Raja I messed up my android some months ago because of those 0000 thing. had wrongly typed in thrice and that machine got locked or whatever.... then I disassembled it not knowing what to do next And for the debit cards... I already mentioned that I have lost two. I now am feeling scared to go to the bank as the moment they see me, they ask... did you lock it up again Baby is wailing almost all of the day and night. Eats, sleeps and keeps us sleepless DE seems to have disappeared. I have no idea whats up... hoping he is all okay and just occupied elsewhere.

Hi How are you doing bro ? How is your new comer Well if you don't have much balance in your account... try to use a simple pin like me --- 0000 or 9999 I usually have such pins .... I have 3 accounts. And the moment I received my salary which is not much --- 12k, I spread them in my 3 accounts. 2 accounts got debit card and the last account is loan account lol I don't hate numbers but yes sometimes I forget the site name as well Do you know what happened to Daddy evil ? He hasn't responded my email in past 4 days. Hope everything is fine with him.

I was a banker and we don't encouraged our clients to open an ATM account using their birthdate as password for it can easily be traced. even dates connected with their personal lives are totally discouraged.

Yes, that is why I keep my friend's birth date I hate those policy where we are asked to change our password after every 30 days. Moreover we can't keep the same password for next 5 sessions.
