When I was a child my brother and I would go every Saturday to the movies downtonwn to see Tarzan played by Johnny Weissmuller. I still think he was the best man who ever played Tarzan. Then of course along came Jane and Boy and all his ape and monkey friends. I always loved seeing him swinging through the treetops. Johnny was the first of the Swimming Champions and had even won Gold Medals in the Olympics. Anytime I hear that a Tarzan movie is going to be on the old movie channel I will watch it to see if it is Johnny playing Tarzan.

He was always my favourite as well. I loved how the actors were able to interact with the chimps. I so wished I could do that.

He was always my favorite too @Marcyaz . As a matter of fact, where we lived at the time, we had rope swings on several huge, tall trees. Whenever we'd be out swinging you could hear us kids making the Tarzan 'call'.

@nanette64 I think back then all the kids would try to make the Tarzan call of the Wild.

Oh I agree that he was the best Tarzan ever. I also liked Ron Ely in the role, but hands down Johnny was the best. I would watch them over and over again if I could.

@Marcyaz It has been awhile since I watch Tarzan. I wonder if it is on Netflix or Hulu Plus? I will have to check and find out. If not, I am sure I can find Tarzan on Youtube.

We used to go the the 'pictures' as we called them every Saturday morning too. Tarzan was a favourite, as was 'Lassie' and Roy Rogers.

I'd almost forgotten about that show, by the time dad got us a TV his show was aired almost every Saturday afternoon and we'd get to watch it. Mom was strict about TV, we weren't allowed to constantly watch TV not that we would have in the first place, playing outside was much more important.

he was great - some of the later Tarzans couldn't do the yell so they dubbed Weismuller's onto the soundtrack to compensate

I loved him Marcy too. He is truly the only real Tarzan in my mind. He was a magnificent man and quite accomplished yes. I do not often or really none that I recall seeing him on the tv now.
