The Three Day Music War

The other night, my girlfriend and I started a music war, where we play music for each other (we have extremely different tastes,) and eventually one of us "wins," usually with something considered out of character, something with a personal story, or something really cool. Because we kept taking breaks, this one lasted three days. Her sample: "Hurt" by Johnny Cash, "Lost in Love" by Air Supply, "Moon River" by Andy Williams, "Just Like them Horses" by Reba, "Goodbye Girl" by David Gates. My sample: "Need You Tonight/ Mediate," by INXS, "TV is King" by The Tubes, "The Doo-Bop Song" by Miles Davis, "Ever Fallen in Love" by the Buzzcocks, "Dead Souls" by Joy Division. My strategy was to bombard her with (mostly) goth and alternative music before going for the knockout. Her strategy was to load up on soft rock and modern country. I thought I had a winner when @fourwalls suggested "Wedding Vows in Vegas" by Was (not Was) with Frank Sinatra Jr on vocals, but my foe didn't go for it. So I brought the big artillery, with Roy Clark doing a Spanish guitar number, "Malaguena," on The Odd Couple, which is so cool that I was finally victorious.
Roy Clark working for CBS with Tony Randall & Jack Klugman. A wild take on an old classic.

This sounds a very fun activity and challenge. I like all the songs both of you did. I am very varied in my musical tastes..I mostly like all. It would have been fun to see this. Is it guitar you both play?

Oh, neither one of us can play anything, we just play songs off of Spotify and You Tube.

@TiarasOceanView - I have fun when we do it, even when it turns into an all-nighter.

I remember my guitar teacher wanting me to learn "Malaguena." I told him I'd heard Roy Clark play it and I wasn't ready for it (I was only 8). I'm still not ready for it. Congrats on the victory!

@FourWalls - Hell, I'd even concede the Hee Haw theme if she played it. Might have to keep that one for myself. I'll definitely try this one.

Thanks! It's only fitting that I won with Roy Clark since she beat me the other night with Buck Owens.

These 'wars must be great fun. I always like reading the titles you play as some of them I haven't heard of for yonks.

I figure rather than documenting every song played, a five-song sample works better.

Thanks, I will, because it's harder for me to win, honestly.
