If you smell home made bread, it's coming from my house

Today is not a very warm day. The sun is out, but it's down right chilly. After several days of record breaking warmth this coldness bites. So, what to do on a chilly Sunday afternoon - why not make home made bread. It's a super simple recipe and we made it once before, so I know it works. It calls for a lot of flour, like almost 6 cups, it make two loaves. We cut it in half and make one loaf, that's quite enough! We are trying to time it so that it will be warm enough when dinner time rolls around, but not too hot we can't cut it! I'll be disappearing into the kitchen in a while so if you smell bread, it's coming from my house. The photo is mine from our last attempt at this bread!

Yes, I think the cows across the road smell it - they are mooing in this direction!

This reminds me when my Mom used to bake some bread. Let's just say that we over ate that day. Fresh bread with butter, nothing like it. Hope it turns out fantastic. Do you think that you will be able to restraint yourself?

It won't be ready until about 3 and we eat early, so no problem! The oven really needs to be cleaned, so it might not smell all that good LOL!

You could have warned me earlier. My computer is in pieces because I have been trying to track down where that smell was radiating from.

@AbbyGreenhill Yes, but it was a pointless exercise since there was nothing overheating after all. I must remember to turn the smell down when I visit Mylot in future.

I don't remember my grandmother baking much. I think I bake more than any of the females in my family did.

My father used to bake bread and his was so much better than what I make, or is it just the memory that's better?

I love home made bread. We have made it many times and there was a time when the kids were small that we had a bread machine. We made many loaves with that. Have you used a bread machine before?

My husband had a bread machine, I've never used one. I have enough gadgets we have to store them in the laundry room so I'm not looking for any more until I get tired of some that I have.

That bread looks so nice. Do you find you eat nearly all of it at one sitting? That used to happen to us.

No, that loaf was an older one, and no we didn't eat the whole thing. Yesterdays loaf was about 1/2 that size and we didn't finish it.

I love homemade bread. When my kids were little I made it all the time, mostly using whole wheat flour. Had to give it up when I got carpel tunnel. Quite painful to knead bread with pins and needles poking your wrists.

This recipe only required like one minute of kneading. Very simple, but quite dense bread.

There's nothing quite like the smell of home made bread coming from the kitchen! That is why I love my brad maker to make the dough, then I cook the loaf in the oven.
