Did he just say that....?

I'll be the first to admit that I might say a curse word every now and then. Usually when I am around other friends who do the same. I don't curse in front of children. I don't curse in front of people who I don't know. I, for sure still can't curse in front of my parents even though my step dad cusses like a sailor sometimes. In other words, I am very respectful with using curse words. Well, I have been seeing my mental health therapist for just over two years now. I am very comfortable with him at this point. And as I talk to him, I have almost said curse words, but I have caught myself and have not yet said one. But every time I have almost slipped he would tell me that it is OK if I cuss in front of him. But I say no way, it isn't polite and I just can't do it, just the same as I can't cuss in from of my mom. Well just last week I was in session with him and it was an emotional session and I was crying. And with out hesitation he stated a sentence with the F word in it. The sentence was very fitting for the situation, but I did a double take in my head like, did he really say that. It didn't offend me at all, I actually laughed on the inside and just let it slid. I never did say anything and still wonder if he realized he said it.... Do you have a potty mouth, or do you keep it clean when you speak?

I don't have a potty mouth but do say the odd naughty word. I'm like you, in certain situations I'd never use bad words. Your therapist sounds human to me which is good Sometimes the odd f word slips out and in the case you mention it may have even been intentional as the subject has been raised before. Maybe he did it to make you feel more comfortable in a way?...to show you he's ok if you use a curse word....or it was just an accidental slip

@Mike197602 I love my theripist...wouldn't trade him for the world. I don't know if we are in a rut per say. But it could have been intentional. I just might to to bring it up some day now and ask him

@T_gray maybe he feels after 2 years he needs to try something a little different to help you progress? Obviously I know nothing but something says to me that it was intentional and I think you may have a talented therapist there. What do you think of him overall? Do you feel he's helping you in general and maybe have got into a sort of rut that he wants you to jump out of with regards to the therapy?

I've been known to let fly when I'm really ticked but I do my best to come up with something off color rather than an actual cuss word.

the youth would imitate any thing you say because they will think it's right. Your definitely discipline for controlling yourself from saying cursing words. well, I keep it clean most of the time

I trained myself to turn it off around the little ones. I am around them a lot being that I am a babysitter. hehe

I am exactly like you. I swear very occasionally but rarely in front of anyone.

I don't have a potty mouth, but I do tend to speak with colorful language at times. LOL.. Sometimes fudge and shoot just don't cut the mustard.

I only have kids around me part time (since I only just babysit them) and luckily I am able to "turn it off." My roommate on the other hand...every other word out of her mouth is the F word. She is not allowed to be here when I have the kids.
