From the iPod #22 - "Black No. 1"

Type O Negative ended after bassist/vocalist Peter Steele passed away (and rightly so. The charismatic Steele had one of rock music's all-time great voices and was irreplaceable.)
Despite their dark, gloomy sound, Type O Negative were not a goth band, although they are often lumped into that genre.
On the other hand, "Black No. 1" was in the weekly rotation at a goth club I frequented in the 1990's, and it packed the dance floor every time. Still not a goth band, but "Black No. 1" is one song that does nothing to distance the band from that designation.
Don't let the "goth" tag steer you away. This is a great tune, and the only song about hair dye that I'm aware of.
I'm back from Trick or Treating! I dressed up as Ozzy Osbourne! Black black black black No. 1 Black black black black No. 1.

I know this is going to sound old, but he reminded me somewhat of Iggy back in the day though entirely on a different plane.
That club must have been packed too.
This is a hot song for sure. Bet you had a great time then..
It is art no doubt..his voice is hypnotic rip.

Well, Iggy does have a deep voice, although not quite as deep as Peter's. Different styles, but I get where you're coming from.

I always thought they were more of a natural environment band. I can see how people would think they are goth. Problem is it was to darn nature like in their sound. My opinion anyway. Another band that listened to their environment

Interesting. I've never heard it put like that. I do know they were one of the two loudest shows I've seen (oddly, The Cars were the other.)
@Freak369 could give more insight than I. I'm a fan, while she is an expert on all things Type O.

@teamfreak16 I am on the wrong side of the country or was when they were doing their thing. I did write a post about a Marine who turned me onto them. Thought he was playing me for a fool. That was on bubblews Turned out "October Rust" was one of the best Cd's i ever bought Took me few listens, but always was funny listening to people in the Marines say play that again. It just hits hard in the right ways. In fact, I was actually in Japan when that happened. Wrong side of the country. Was not even in the country. lol

Gloom is sort of synonymous with Goth and this song has got that down pat.
