It's Me Against the Bugs

I've been battling the bugs in my house these days. They congregate around the windows. I used to try to bring them outside, but the numbers make that impossible, so I've graduated to the flyswatter and vacuum. I call it "bug duty" and it's a daily chore. I wish there was an end to it.

We fight an annual war against sugar ants. Each spring they come into the kitchen and battle all the way through until the next winter when we finally get a good frost. I've tried to convince my wife that we should just learn to live with them as they don't eat much. My missus will not agree to that plan, so I have to keep trying new things to keep them out.

Anything with borax seems to work (the liquid sugary formula works best) ; also try diamatetious (sp?) earth.

@Sheilamarie78 I've used the boric acid based powders and liquids to great effect. I inject it into the places I find the ants infiltrating the house through.

It is a good idea to vacumn them.
Is it the warm weather now bringing them in Sheila?

@Sheilamarie78 Oh I see Sheila..so it is the cold that brings them in because they are seeking the warm indoors.

Actually the ones we have are called cluster flies and they come in large numbers. They actually make their way in when the weather starts to get cooler and we start to heat the house. I battle them all winter and then they leave when the weather gets warm.

One good thing about the cold we are having in Connecticut is that for now, we have no bugs around. In Florida I have a pest control company that treats my house 4 times a year.

Not with the cluster flies. I've tried several things over the years. One was called the "Cluster Buster." So-so results.

@Sheilamarie78 That's a shame. You would think there would be something to get rid of them.

Hello! Remember me? @Sheilamarie78
It's good to see your smiling face again after my long absence.
As for the bugs, I'm sorry that you have these intruders.
Can't you to take help from the city?

Hi Gabby. I haven't been on this site either for ages. I wrote this little "bug rant" over a year ago. No, I don't live in the city, which is why I have so many dear critters around.
I hope you are well, Gabby @Gabugs .

@Sheilamarie78 Indeed . Though some are water based . We usually would not go near the are sprayed for about 30 minutes so we will not inhale it , for precautionary measure.

Are they lady bugs? I've seen them swarm on windows in the spring. They are tricky and if the house is old they sneak in and live in the walls over the winter...We stopped at a winery in an old building in New York state and the window was covered in lady bugs.

I wish you will be successful in your battle with the bugs. In our house, my concern is all about ants.

I've noticed the bugs again myself, these teeny black bugs in my bathroom. I'm assuming they're coming in from the window. I hate killing them but if I don't, they'll just take over.

We are already starting to see ants in the house....last year it was a constant battle way into the fall! It's good to see you here, I was a fellow bubbler.
