Never On Sunday

Every country has weird laws.
Here in Switzerland we have several laws to protect the peace during Sundays.
If you visit Switzerland, here is what you cannot do on Sunday:
(you can the other days of the week)
- You cannot wash your car in the driveway using a power washer.
- You cannot hung your clothes outside to dry. (Who want to see socks waving during a relaxing stroll?).
- You are not allowed to drop empty glass bottles in the recycling bins.
- You can not mow the lawn with an electric mower.
They may sound weird, but imagine the noise that all those activities produce.
Sunday is a day to relax and enjoy the outdoor, without unnecessary noise.
(The photo is mine, the small beach along the river two blocks from us).

@AbbyGreenhill It would if every time you receive a fine from 200 to 600$. If someone really need to mow they usually ask the neighbor if they can do the job at a non disturbing hour. Of course we say nothing if this happens only a few times a year. If someone is rude, says nothing and start mowing at 7 AM, you may guess that someone immediately call the police.

@LadyDuck Wow, I wish people couldn't mow on Sunday around here, but that rule would never fly.

@fishtiger58 I am sure that people here know very well the law and if they forget there is always someone who is annoyed enough to call the police, from that day on, they will remember.

@LadyDuck I like the whole idea of quiet on Sunday. Here in the US, most towns have noise laws that go something like this, you can make noise from 8am until 10 pm then quiet. However many don't follow those laws or even know they exist.

What a wonderful picture. I loved the picture.
I was not at all aware that such laws exist in Switzerland, as far as Sunday is concerned. It sounds very cool that there are such laws which make sure that people relax on Sundays and they don't get disturbed by others. That is one the reasons that Switzerland is considered one the best countries in the world.
However, one question came in my mind - Then when do they attend to their car washing and mowing etc. ?
We attend to our errands on weekends as working days are busy days for us.

@LadyDuck It means people mow their lawns on a day other than Sunday and they follow the rules scrupulously.

@dpk262006 Yes, usually people mow their lawns on Saturday, but many prefer to do this task during the week when they come back from work, between 6 to 8 PM.

Oh shoot. What does someone do that works Monday through Saturday and Sunday is the only day to accomplish those tasks @LadyDuck ? A very peaceful, beautiful picture by the way.

@nanette64 I agree, I think that it's good that our Government has decided that the shops must stay closed on Sundays and holidays.

Here, nobody can work 6 days a week and surely not from 7 AM up to 9 PM, they can mow the lawn when they come back from work, they have time up to 8 PM. I am happy that there is this law, here all the shops are closed on Sundays because this is a day to rest and spend with family.

@LadyDuck That's the way it used to be here in the US. It upsets me when people have to work on Sundays and especially for those 'forced' to work on holidays. That's just not right.

Yikes. I actually like the sounds of Sunday. It would annoy me to not be able to mow my lawn or hang the washing out on a Sunday. Are children allowed to play outside or are they banned for being too noisy?!

Children are allowed to play outside, after 9 in the morning and until 10 in the evening, they cannot make noise from noon until 2 PM, that is considered resting time. Of course if the children are as noisy as a mower you can ask them to lower their voices. The NO NOISE hours are the same during the week.

@ramapo17 I know that many Italians do not like to live in Switzerland because it's too quiet. After 30 years in Monte-Carlo we needed to live in a quiet town. If we want animation we cross the border and go to stroll on the shores of lake of Come, 10 minutes from home. I cannot ask better.

@DaintyD I agree with you. I think we all deserve one day out of 7 to just kick back and take er easy. Nothing like a good worship service and the Word preached to start the day off too.

Sunday is for relaxing I am with your lawmakers.
But Connie Francis even adds another rule -

That picture looks beautiful. Reminds me of my early walk alongside a meandering brook clear as crystal in Engelberg.
Originally sang by Connie Francis and others followed later the same song Oh, you can kiss me on a Monday a Monday a Monday is very very good Or you can kiss...

Wow I have never heard of chewing gum being banned. Why is that? Too many people spitting it out on sidewalks etc?
