A picture paints a thousand words. Action speaks louder. Do you use emoticons to express yourselves? Appropriate usage of emoticons can do a lot to augment your speech.
However, excessive use of unnecessary emoticons in your messages could potentially turn people off. I've came across people who kept using this emoticon :3 too many times (:3 means a cute face resembling that of a kitten in cartoons).
Depending on your audience, emoticons do go a long way in communicating what we feel to the other party. There's a myriad of creative emoticons available in our social media applications. The one above is one of my recent favorites.

I love using emojis but I don't type like the emojis with symbols anymore. Sometimes if I put :D and other users have a different phone they may get a different emoji that doesn't fit our text message lol. So now when I type I just put haha

@Ladypeace I have an iPhone and most friends have an Android. So sometimes the emojis on the iPhone convert differently to Android or they come out like something I did not type. So now, I have to physically type out the emoji I want to use so the text flows better, lol.
Example. (iPhone emoji is a Happy Face with a tongue) Sometimes the Android will get :?) And my friend(s) cannot tell what it is.

Really? Wow, that's bad. I hate it when my messages get auto corrected and they appear ridiculous when I've sent it out and I've to explain myself by resending another one.

@Ladypeace I would never do that. I hope no-one ever thinks that of my smileys.

That simple smiley is short but sweet and one of my favorites. I like that you put it to express something you're talking about that you would smile. I've seen some people who use that to irritate others by laughing at the misfortune of others.

Yeah, I feel that the smiley face is great =) It expresses friendliness. Agree on the part that I get annoyed by an overload of emoticons. Feels like the person has got nothing better to do.

You're cool like that. I don't see much of a use in using too many emoticons besides turning people off.

I wouldn't use it if there isn't a need to. I find the stickers useful for generating fun.

I feel the same way. I'd go for moderate usage of emoticons in conveying one's message.

That's fantastic, I'm glad you that you feel the same way. I get really annoyed when someone uses a happy smiley after every single sentence they use.

I use emoticons when my comment-or-response is a different 'flavor' than the standard definitions of the words would imply---like if I say something (sarcastically) that would sound "sick" if I weren't being sarcastic, I'll usually put :-P (tongue hanging out the side) or myLot's 'silly' ()

Yes, I've downloaded quite a few of those facebook emoticon stickers! Me and my friends use them in our conversations.

Same here. I use emoticons mainly when I'm communicating with my closer friends as they enhance the humor of our topic.
