Attempted Burglary In My Area

We had a letter from the police this morning advising us to be extra vigilant due to a recent attempted break in in our area. It scares me so much to think that someone could break into our home and potentially harm me or my family.
We have an alarm but there is not much else we can do to protect us apart from pray we do not become a victim of robbery :(
At least the letter said attempted which means they were not able to break into the house in the end, but still it is scary.
How do you react when there is a robbery in your area? Do you get scared too?

This is quite an interesting post, so I'm not sure why it hasn't been responded to. I try not to think about break-ins.

We dont get letters around here for that but it does happen often. Usually it is the garages that are broken into, and police often use the term "burglary" for this as well. Keep everything locked up, close the shades when you leave and be sure if you are going out of town to let your neighbor know and maybe have them collect your mail. Be safe!

I don't know for sure, but it seems we don't have many burglaries, attempted or otherwise, where I live. I really hope I haven't tempted Fate! *sigh*

I live in a very small town and crime is minimal but I lock the doors on my house when I am the only one home.

@fishtiger58 Seems as though even alarms are not enough to keep them away.

We have had an increase in robberies in our area. Sad that this is happening in our small town. Last night was the second time that the same gas station was robbed. This time, they caught the suspects. There was a home invasion where an elderly lady was robbed. It took a while to find the culprits who robbed her, but they finally did.
It frightens me to think that it can happen to us too. It is a different world we live in. Quite frightening.

The odds of being robbed at some point are probably fairly high. I don't get scared since we don't get a local paper we don't know about such things. But there is only so much anyone can do. If someone breaks in while we're home they will find themselves facing more than they bargained for.

@gudheart I think I know, but if it does happen who knows how I'll react.

Scary of course. I was once a victim of robbery, taken was 145,000 pesos Philippines money. The robber was my college friend who visited me and begged me to stay one night in my bed,too late, when we woke up next day, my ATM gone, she withdrew my money. The pin is written in the wallet containing my ATM. My robber friend flew to Malaysia,at large, super scary until now,

Yes, I get very scared and become vigilant. I don't even go out after midnight in the open verandah we have.
I hope they catch the culprits soon enough so you could breath easy. That is worrisome.
