Has anyone used a midwife?

I was just reading an article where the state of Illinois wants to legalize midwives. I had no idea they weren't legal in most states. Apparently in Illinois at least they stopped issuing licenses in 1963. I find the concept of midwifery interesting. I just assumed they were certified.

I had midwives for my 2 most recent deliveries. I live in Ontario, and midwifery services are covered under our provincial health care. I also had both of my youngest at home, which was the ideal setting for me.

That is really different from here in the states. Seems like a great alternative to hospital births. I had to have c-sections so it wasn't an option for me.

i didnt know that it isnt allowed in some areas too. it is allowed in our country (philippines). a lot of moms prefer midwives in having their baby cause its cheaper.

I used an OB because him technically high risk so a midwife wouldn't have been a good choice for me. I know many women that have had a midwife and have beautiful babies. A midwife is a good choice if your low risk and they will generally make sure your wishes are followed. I never had an issue with my OB fallowing my issues

I had doctors and nurses for my births. I probably could have used a midwife, but my dad (who is a doctor) helped me find my current Doctor, while I was pregnant with my eldest. I just stayed with her for my two others as well.

In England I'm pretty sure that midwifery is an add-on to regular nursing here. So you have to be a nurse first, then qualify as a midwife afterwards. So obviously they are legal here.

I only have one ob-gyne when I gave birth to my three daughters. I am not at ease to deliver with a midwife.
