Braces Day Today

My oldest is not happy that today is here. She is not looking forward to getting her braces on today. To be honest, I'm not thrilled either, but that's because I'm not looking forward to the $6500 we are spending to straighten her teeth. I think I'm probably dreading it more than she is, but it needs to be done. She has teeth that aren't where they should be. They are too high up so she can't even use those two teeth. The braces will fix that. It will be worth it once it's done, but that doesn't mean either of us are thrilled about it. My husband and I made the decision together, so I can't complain too much, I just wish it wasn't so expensive. She's getting the braces on in stages, so today she will only be getting the top set of braces on. Her teeth are too close together, so they can't put the bottom set on until after the top has had some time to move the teeth some. I believe they said 6 to 8 months before she will be ready for the bottom ones. Unfortunately she also has to have oral surgery before the bottom set can be put on because there is a tooth piece in the lower gums that shouldn't be there. We don't know if it grew there or was left when she had a tooth removed to make room for the rest of her teeth (she has a small mouth with not enough room for all her teeth). That's scheduled for the end of May. She's not thrilled about that either (neither am I) but it's better to do it now than wait until she's an adult. I better go, it's almost time to get ready to leave. Edited to correct the amount, I was remembering wrong. It now has the correct amount.

It will not be easy but she will be benefited for sure. My son had his braces and he lost weight but he loved the result after the sacrifice.

@fawkes62 For sure she would. She will have the most beautiful smile after the braces.

I had braces when I was her age too and I hated having them, but I liked the results. She'll be happy she did it once it's done.

Good luck to you and your daughter today. My kids all had braces and I can sympathize with both you (for the bill) and her for the ordeal.

It definitely isn't cheap. It's going to be a challenge, but we'll manage. She was in a much better mood once it was done. I think the anticipation was the worst for her.

I am so sorry that your daughter (and you) are having to go through all of this. I also have a small mouth but fortunately I have never had too many teeth for my mouth. I wish her luck with her braces.

@fawkes62 That's good. Before long she won't even notice the braces anymore.

Thank you. It will be a long process, but she's getting used to it already.

In wish they could get by with the invisaline, but their teeth are too crooked for those to work.

@fawkes62 that is to bad but at least they are going to get them fixed. Neither hubby or I ever got ours fixed, now as adults we will never get around to it

This is tough for a child but it will be worth it in the end. Many kids have to go through this - and many parents fret a bit about the cost too. Luckily only one of our boys needed braces.

I wish only one of mine needed them. One at a time wouldn't be so bad, but I got two that will be in them at the same time. The third probably will need them but she's still young enough that we don't know for sure on her yet.

@fawkes62 I don't envy you. It will be a lot of expense.

The braces are not fun but she will be glad she had them in the end. I got braces as an adult. That's harder to deal with.

We've told her she'll be glad she did them once it's done, but she's still not looking forward to it. I could use them again as my teeth moved, but that's not in the plan. Two kids in them at the same time is expensive enough.

@fawkes62 I remember how expensive it was when my boys had them. The $ amount has gone up even more. Its getting to the point where parents can't afford it.

Well my goodness you never know about teeth do you, too bad she has to go through all this just to straighten her teeth. Hope everything turns out okay and you have a good dentist.

He's the same one I had when I had braces at her age and my nephew went there too so I think he's a good one.

Good luck to your daughter, and to you of course. I know it will be stressful for you both, but it should be worth it in the long run.

It will be worth it in the long run, it's just getting through it that will be difficult. She seemed much happier after they were done than she did on the way to the appointment.

A good parent has to do these things for their children. It will be worth it in the end.

It is and she knows that, but it doesn't make her like it. She'll be happy she did it once she sees the results.
