Some people go off the assumption that knowledge is power.

I am not saying that knowledge is not power. It certainly IS power but not in all circumstances. The attacks that happened in Brussels, it's devastating. My Heart goes out to those who lost their lives, and for those who lost their loved ones. My Heart goes out to that Nation. I think that coverage of the victims and their progress, as well as the progress of rebuilding and community coming together... I believe THESE things should be covered but no attention should be given to the group responsible. It is obvious that they WANT to be recognized. I am of two minds about it though. If we do not recognize them, will we infuriate them further? Or will it really matter? Is their continued power / terror in the fact that we keep reporting it? Keep terrorizing ourselves with "what if's"? Why do we give them the power?

I know how frightening this type of incidents can be in a country and for the people who are not habitual of these stuffs. I as a Indian can really feel this, as we are facing terrorist attack from time to time for the last 3 decades. As a human being deep concern from my side and from my countrymen on this incident.

It is a very sad incident indeed. I just wish the news wouldn't cover it so much.

The group responsible would continue to attack whether they got full coverage or no coverage. They are sociopaths and their only desire is to kill and terrorize. It is their reason for existing.

I agree. I re-read my discussion and I see where it might be assumed that I am saying no attention should be given at all. I am not saying that, but am saying that the media should not cover them. It is truly sad that we have these types of people in our world today.

@ScribbledAdNauseum One of the points you made, about not granting them power over us by living in terror of their next attack, is an important point. We cannot live our lives and go about our business as if we're afraid that one of the psychotic killers is lurking around the next bend.

@DWDavis Even if half the nation agrees with us, it won't make a difference. People are going to fear and I am afraid that it will only cripple us if something really does come of it.

Because we are listening to the channels, watching the sites, that televise information on them. When we stop they will also.

@ScribbledAdNauseum ....Some things we have no control over. All we can do is take care of our corner of the world.

You are right but then I don't see us getting everyone to stop watching it.

I'm not sure that ignoring ISIS will make them go away, but I like the idea of giving minimal attention to the perpetrators of mass shootings. Some of these people are doing it for publicity (even if it's post-mortem) but the jihadi mongrels have more profound ideological reasons.

No, it won't make them go away, this is true. I'm not saying our respective Governments shouldn't keep a keen eye on their affairs but to spread it across our media sources? We shouldn't allow them to see any fear.

I agree. But that's not what ratings call for. People do want know the why too.
