Have You Ever Lent Anything Valuable to Others

I have lent a close friend of mine money for her school fees. My mom had lent her brother money three decades ago so he could start his own business in Canada. My uncles and aunties from my mom's side have lent each other money for my cousins' education. All of the money mentioned above has been duly returned. I feel that in those cases we lend people money because we trust them and they have good reason for the money. Have you ever lent anything valuable to others? Why did you do so? Photo Source:

Lending measures trustworthiness or mistrust. Makes us lose faith in humanity each time we get ripped off. Thanks, I've picked out this photo because it's super adorable and fits the theme of the topic.

I have lent to few with some knowing it is more of a charity. Two took advantage of me with one acting "blur" as we say in Singapore and the other incommunicado! So I am more circumspect nowadays - siva

You have a kind heart. The act of lending brings out the matter of trust - which we know can be a really touchy issue. It's sad that more often than not people try to fleece from others. It really does us good to be careful.

@Ladypeace Thanks, I lend only what I can afford to lose but I could have given to the needy what I gave to the greedy! siva

Glad that you got your money back. Its always dicey borrowing money out to people. I never borrow money more than a couple hundred to people I trust. Only one person has never paid me back but now I know not to borrow them money ever again. Some people are really good at returning it quick.

I like your analogy of lending money being akin to throwing a dice. Someone who refuses to pay back will lose the trust of others and should be distanced from. I also feel protective towards others who keep getting taken disadvantaged of.

No, I guess in the society of Singapore, it is more common to borrow money from the banks than to borrow from relatives. The study loan is one example. The students are not charged interest until they graduate and start working.

That's true, Singaporeans prefer something in black and white when it comes to lending money.

That is very nice of you/your family to lend money to those who need and they return too! I lent things here/there but I don't hang out with much people anymore.

@Ladypeace Yes - understandable. It is hard to lend to people/trust people ~ but within family it's more chances of them being loyal (close ones that is).

I don't lend often. It's hard to trust people nowadays. I've had people who didn't return stuff to me as well but wasn't mentioned in this post.

We have lent money from time to time but not big amounts, at least not that I can remember. Some of my books that I have lent I have considered valuable.

@Ladypeace We would trust both immediate families implicitly if we were to lend them anything, including money.

I hope that it's because you have some good mutual trust going around.

When I was in a toxic relationship, I lent money to my abusive ex in several instances, but he never paid a single amount. From that time on, I learned never to lend money.

That's awful and hurtful. I'm glad you're over this abusive person that doesn't deserve to be in your life.
