I need some relaxation time!

Yesterday ended up being a horror show. With everything else I'm going through, I needed the day to go smoothly. Well, things don't always go as we wish, do they?
I brought my cat to the vet to get caught up on shots and have a quick exam. She's 13 now and I need to make sure things are good. I know that she still plays a lot, she DEMANDS her treats (LOL) and she eats well and drinks well. So I had to assume things were okay.
She hates going to the vet. HATES it. She howled in the van all the way there. Thankfully, the driver loves cats and talked to her and tried to make friends. Once we got into the building, my cat began cowering in her carrier. Well, the cowering was actually the best part.
The vet remembered her from last year. Her assistant came in and put on very heavy gloves for protection. They put her on the table, weighed her (perfect weight) and gave her the shot. Took her temp. She was good there. Then the vet listened to her heart. And then all hell broke loose. I don't know what it was about the stethoscope that got her going, but she began screaming, the claws came out, she hissed, spit and then tried to attack the vet and her assistant. The vet actually took a few steps back out of fear. They then let her jump off the table and go hide in the corner. She finally ran back into her carrier to come home!
The worst part was that the vet said she thinks my cat has a heart murmur and it might be a sign of something very wrong with her heart. Needless to say, I began to shake. I just lost my husband and I'm not ready to lose my cat, too. Not to mention that I don't have the money for all of that. Once we finally got home and my cat immediately came back to her normal, loving self, I think what the vet heard was pure terror and nothing more. She was off the charts terrified and once she got back home with me, everything is great. She's playing and purring and eating and happy.
I'm still exhausted from that one trip. 30 minutes out of a day. ugh. I hope moving won't be as bad for her. I plan to keep her far away from the movers!

My poor cats will yowl from the time I put them in a cage to the time I take them out at home. The are okay at the vets. Whine a little when they are being restrained to have the vet check them.
My older cat won't fare well if we ever move again. She isn't great with change. Not sure how the little monster would react. When my hubby brought her home as a kitten he didn't have cage. She rode under the seat of the truck. Had to drag her out.

@CRK109 Mine will creep along the baseboards and sniff out the place. Then hide under the furniture until they feel safe enough to come out again.

When Ruby was a kitten, we let her out inside the car once. She flew all over the car and I almost crashed the car! The only reason I think she might be okay in our new place is because the windows are huge and we're up a little bit so she'll see a lot of birds! I think she'll forget all about this place soon enough. Her curiosity is huge! :) My love to your cats! :)

She was completely off the charts terrified. I'm very surprised that she rebounded as quickly as she did. I really think she's okay, but I will keep an eye on her, especially in light of the upcoming move!

Thank you so much! I hope so, too. I would hate to have to put her through all that testing.

Poor kitty @CRK109 . Yeah, I think what the vet heard was a raised heart rate because of the experience. Only 1 of my 16 cats likes to go to the vet. As a matter of fact, I don't even have to put her in a carrier because she likes to sit in my lap and drive the car.

Sounds like our dogs reaction to the vet. She is scared out of her mind. Total terror. It takes her days to recover.

Wow. All of the dogs I saw at the vet were so calm and happy. I thought it was just cats. But then again, my last cat loved going to the vet. He would purr the whole time he was being examined! lol I'm so sorry about your dog. For those of us who have cats who hate the vet, it's not a fun trip, that's for sure.

Yes, I'm keeping a close eye on her now. I know all of her normal habits and so far, she's right back to them. She seems just fine to me.
