Food Shopping Nightmare

Apart from the cost of food do you actually read the labels. Going shopping these days is a science. What superfoods are in fashion. Fat labels , sugar labels that say 40 percent less sugar. They never tell you 40 percent of what. They never tell you how much fat. sugar or salt is in the food in the first place. I find it easy as I have the time to cook fresh veg and meat. For those busy people who work or have large families and don't get much time have to buy the quick cook food. So do you find it a nightmare or do you just eat what you like and to hell with all the health scares

It is a fine balancing act here suzzy and it is no fun, all the fun is out of grocery shopping at all. It is dog eat dog here to get the best bargain. I cant just eat whatever I like because it is way too expensive.. I just try to get a base food, meat, and then put lots of veggies and spuds or rice. I wash all veggies best I can to avoid chemicals..organic is so expensive here too. And I consider meat to be poisoned really but to afford grass fed is outrageous. If it were just me, I would do without it, but son has to have some meat..

Our food is getting expensive again in the UK. You sound like me with the base food. We like our meat , we buy British only and that way you can be almost sure it is welfare meat. like you say it is expensive but one we could not do without. Although we do have two meat free days a week. Plenty of veg is the way to bulk meat dishes out. Stews,Casseroles and soups cheap , full of goodness and filling.

Half the food you buy isn't labeled properly anyway so why even bother reading the labels.

I do not have any health problem but I do not have fancy for the food that contain too much salt or sugar. Food is cheap here and many eateries are selling so many types of food. We can have a plate of chicken rice for $3, or a set meal that comes with soup and vegetables for $5.

It can be. Sometimes those lables misinform us. Sometimes we'll need to do our own research to find out what is what.

I prefer to eat food as close as nature makes it most of the time. So a large part of diet is a lot of fresh fruits and vegetables.

In the UK food labels certainly DO tell you what the fat, sugar, salt etc levels are in the foods.

I used to read the labels, but now I know what I like and stick to them. I do recheck the labels everynow and again
