A friend who thinks God is a joke made me feel badly.

I can't tell you how sad I felt when I was made to feel retarded just because I have faith in a divine creator. How would you feel if you asked your friend to please not talk about religion because it is a sensitive subject to you not because of your own feelings about God or Jesus, but because of your friend's taking God and the Lord Jesus and making fun and thus making you feel like you are incompetent for not agreeing with his atheistic point of view.
I remember in grade school when a bully told a Christian boy the was a Jesus Freak. The boy returned with the following remark, "Jesus ain't no freak."
If a person you know is atheist or agnostic but they often belittle and berate you for being a Christian and not thinking like they do, don't let it bother you. If they had real respect for you as a person they would drop the subject and not make jokes about Christianity. One day in their dim witted life, they will call on Jesus or God to help them when the Dirt Hits the Fan so to speak.

Sometimes I think when a non believer behaves disrespectfully it's an indication they are very insecure with their own faith or lack of it.

I agreed with you up until the last sentence. If you want real respect as a person, you have to give it, too. You can't expect people who don't share your beliefs to respect you as a person when you turn around and call their lives dimwitted and completely negate their beliefs by saying they'll appeal to your higher power in a time of need.

@lookatdesktop They will not believe until they see the power of God at work in their own lives.

But I am saying this with respect to my friend making me out to be the dim witted one. It is he who lords it over me that I am a fool for believing. I am not a fool I strongly believe in the power of Jesus Christ in my life and unfortunately my friend thinks God is a joke, and that all things that relate to Christianity are the workings of a fool's mind. If he had shown me the respect I had shown him in the many years before today, I would not be writing this discussion here. I showed him honor, I showed him respect and in return he mocked me and my God.
Those who do not believe in God are those who are lost, but my anger is what led me to say things in that last sentence. I do not honor those who do in fact dishonor mine.
I never disrespected my friend's atheist stance. I never made light of his beliefs. It is he who has been disrespectful of my God. He thinks his way is the superior way. Some and many who do not believe in a God often think themselves above all the rest of mankind. They in fact stand in judgement of God. This is a sin and a disgrace.

That is how I feel towards other who are Atheists, I do not stand in judgement of any religion because I chose to be respectful of them and accept all types as God would expect me to be, that is, tolerant and accepting and respectful. This is the golden rule.

@lookatdesktop Ethical people are taught to respect the beliefs of others, no matter how much you may disagree. That doesn't mean there will not come a time when I tell the world about my beliefs, which should be given the same reverence.

My faith is very important to me and I would really feel so bad if someone try to talk badly about my faith in God and Jesus christ our lord. Just because someone doesn't believe in God, doesn't mean that they can plaspheme the name of God. That means that they are insecure about what they believe in.

Remember what they did to Jesus? They laughed and even spit in his face. We have to endure what others say and pray for them. People change! 2 Thessalonians 3:2 New International Version (NIV) 2 And pray that we may be delivered from wicked and evil people, for not everyone has faith.

A lot of people think that way. I know professionals and geniuses who do believe in a higher power. The Bible says that they will hate you because they hate Him. I sometimes wonder how people don't believe when the prophecy in Revelation is all coming true. I respect others with their choices and they should do the same.

It would be nice if my friend could show me a little respect as I have shown him in spite of the fact he was raised a Christian but decided to become Agnostic, whatever that is. Doubting Thomas I guess. One who thinks the basic goodness of men is enough and that we do not need a God to do good things. But we need the blood of the lamb to be saved and have everlasting life, but he begs to differ about things like this.

It is not only about Christianity. An atheist does not limit his argument to a particular religion. He only blabbers after taking the name of GOD at home...They are all funny guys who speak for publicity.
