She went out to check the mail

Those of you who have been my friend for a while, know that I have cats. I have quite a few cats. One of them is Oliver, the black and white kitten in my avatar. Oliver is even more special that most of my cats because he came to us at a week old. Oliver has never, since we got him on October 7th, 2005, spent even a night away from our house. He has had times when we weren't around, but its because we've been gone, not because he's some place else. None of these have been more than 10 days. However, despite the fact that he has never been away from this house, he has some separation issues. Because I fell yesterday, I am not feeling quite my best. That doesn't mean that I have been babying myself. I took the roomie to the doctor, brought up the trash cans from the street, even checked the mail earlier. Now, my house sits up a slope. Not a big hill or anything, but I've been up and down that slope several times. And by 8 tonight, I was done with it. I asked the roomie if she'd go check the mail. About 11 she asked if it still needed to be check, I told her, yes. She went out and checked it. When she came back in, Oliver just went nutz. He started hollering like she had stepped on his tail, in fact, because I was looking the other way, I thought she had. But, no, he was standing on a box behind me, yelling his fool head off. She called him over and tried to get him to jump up on her. Nope, he stood at her feet and hollered. Then he ran over to me, jumped up on me for some pets. He stopped yelling, but he ran back over to her, than to me again. All we can guess is that he thought she'd been gone a long time instead of maybe a minute to check the mail. He finally calmed down, but he's such an idiot.

Awww adorable. I didn't know cats could be as clingy. I always find cats a bit collected and detached. Except maybe for when they're hungry and wants cuddles.

@flapiz Oliver has always been a bit odd, he's very attached to us since we are the only "Moms" he's ever known. At least he doesn't try to nurse on us like some of the kittens we've gotten who were older when we got them.

@Marty1 I use to sit on adopted cats of our neighbour. Not sit literally but like pet sit. And oh boy they're so aloof when I don't have treat. But I can't stereotype now that I know your kitty story.

@Marty1 That's too cute. Well the bottom line is "treat" is our friend. Apparently the closest way to a pet's heart is food as well. I thought it could only be applied to the male human specie.

I'm sore, but I'm not unable to move. My neck and upper back hurt the worst.

Oliver was both raised by Rygel, who is part Siamese despite not having the pointed coloring, and discovered we responded better when he talked to us, is actually a pretty noisy boy. He also will get underfoot if he is feeling insecure.

We suspect that he hadn't been aware of her leaving just a few moments before because he was asleep. He woke up when she came back in. Maybe, because she'd been in her room all evening, and then he discovers her coming back from outside, he thought she had left without me. He doesn't behave like that when I leave or when we leave together.

maybe he thought she shouldn't be going outside so late at night. Seems something frightened him. Poor Oliver.

We really don't know what upset him. He does have some separation issues but this seemed so out of proportion for going out and checking the mail.

@Marty1 Oliver is a goofball. He always has been, so @JohnRoberts is right about that. He is also a sweetheart. After all, the world according to Oliver is that the roomie and I are "Mom," since he doesn't remember any other.

@Marty1 Spike, the roomie's new hamster, is still pretty skittery, but she's only had him about 2 weeks.
