I have always loved trying new recipes. Having started cooking early in my life, at age 11, I was always found in the kitchen. Even when my mother forbade me to bake, I would go against her words and bake up a storm when she left me to watch my brothers and little sister.
Pies, cookies, breads, or the occasional meal were just a few things I would whip up. My mother would be angry for a moment, but was happy not to have to cook when she returned home.
Hate to toot my own horn, but I make great desserts. Often times I would whip up a batch of cream puffs for a party or cookout. They were the first thing to go, often before the main course.
Sunday is Easter and I plan on making a few goodies to put out for desserts. I make everything from scratch. However, I did cheat a bit and bought a graham cracker crust for the chocolate cream pie, and ready made pie crusts that were on sale at Aldi for the lemon meringue pie. I will be trying a new recipe that I found on the internet called Samoa pie. It is supposed to be like a Girl Scout cookie with the same name. The link to the recipe is below. You may have to copy and paste it in order to see the recipe. There are are a few steps to making this pie, but it looks delicious. Can't wait to see the reaction of my family to this new delight.
(March 14, 2016) – Every year on March 14 we celebrate Pi Day! Pi, or the rounded number 3.14, matches up with the date March 14. Pi is a very complicated number, but your favorite pie recipe doesn…

I almost bought the plain caramel because it was .50 cents cheaper than the salted caramel. But, I wanted it to be the way it is supposed to be.

@LadyDuck I am sure that you could leave out the caramel. It would be more like a Mounds candy bar, or if you like, add chopped almonds to make it like an Almond Joy.

@ElusiveButterfly I never buy anything with caramel (no matter if salty or plain), both my husband and I do not like the taste of caramel.

I will probably not eat the chocolate cream pie. Maybe even pass on the lemon meringue. I am looking forward to the Samoa pie. Hope it turns out well.

@Jessicalynnt I make the filling from scratch. Everyone can taste the difference when others make one from a boxed mix.

Desserts such as what I am going to prepare are only for special occasions. I couldn't and wouldn't eat them every day.

What a great skill to have Elusive.
That pie sounds absolutely divine.
I bet all your stuff gets eaten right away haha. I know I would too.
Sadly no time to bake even at the best of times.
I am okay at it but by no means as good as you I am sure.

I can taste the preservatives in store bought pies, cookies, and cakes. Even when you go to a bakery it isn't the same as what you would prepare at home.

@Marcyaz When I go go someone's house and am offered dessert, I ask if it was homemade. If not, I tend to decline the offer.

Since this is about desserts who can ignore my bread pudding from scraps of bread. Just layer them with whatever you can lay your hands on - my hand grabbed some sun dried apricots, raisins, bits of cashew nuts and ofcourse the usual milk and eggs that are essential. I caramelise the tin before starting the process and do the steaming, yes steaming as that way it stays quite moist.
That recipe is quite elaborate and I admire that you actually spent time with it. How did it turn out?

I hope it does too. I thought about making a nice rice pudding too, but changed my mind. I have mastered rice pudding. Often challenge myself to try something new.

I'm still learning to cook and I love having a recipe turn out right. I haven't really tried a dessert other than some peanut butter cookies I made once. All your baking sounds delicious and now I am hungry.

When I was first learning to cook and bake, I was open to any challenge. Even made a baked Alaska. That was fun to do.
