When you had no choice...

Did you accept a job that you really really hate just because you had no choice? In my experience, I started working in a place that many people hate...a call center! was looking for a job that allowed me to have a little of money just to get/buy personal stuff..I am not that kind of person who likes to live from daddy! Here in Uruguay is common to live with parents when you are young, specially because the cost living is really expensive and jobs are not paid well.. I was really young at that time (I am still young hahaha). I started working for a local call center for a couple of months...and I hated it! The way people (even inside work) treats you! Oh God, only people who works/has worked in a call center can understand! The stress you get there is terrible! When you donĀ“t have labour experience, it is harder for you to find something good and well paid! Even when you have studies and experience, the market is so competitive! Sometimes you accept a job just because you need to work in order to pay your bills! What do yo think about? Did you work in a job/place you hate it only because you had no choice?

I worked in the same job for years, to start with it was great. Over the years things changed and I hate the place so much I can't up it into words. For some unknown reason as much as I hated the place i could never left until one day I have a accident at work. I was off work for over a year then left. It was the best thing I ever did leaving. I will never work in a job I don't like.

Sad to heard that you had an accident there.. I used to feel so uncomfortable, stressed even in my off thinking about that I had to come back from my off.. Finding a place where you can go and feel okay, specially when you like your job, can be fantastic. Thanks for sharing your opinion!

@alilin28 Thank you, ok it was an accident but it was the best thing that happened, ok it wasn't nice but made realize how much I disliked the place. It's not good if you are feeling stressed out and dislike a job and having to go to a job because of. Ok there aren't many jobs around and a job is better then nothing, but if it make you fell like that then it's not worth it.

@kevin1877uk unfortunately the economical situation here is complicated. You need to be thanked because you have a job... It's horrible to spend part of your life doing something that you really hate at all.... There's a lot of people unemployed and numbers are growing up higher and higher... The cost living is too expensive for a miserable salary...

I once had a job that I hated, but I stayed because I needed the money. I worked in a home health care team. I liked the work as such (visiting the clients etc) but I didn't like the district where I worked. The job was very stressful and we had far more clients that we were supposed to. The managers treated us badly and the atmosphere was cold as ice. I wanted to quit my job, but I needed money for my rent and my bills and I stayed much longer than I wanted.

When you feel you dont have the support of your boss could be really difficult to continue doing something that you know it could be better but they are refused to hear you! I had no choice as you said because of the bills....

ive been working in a call center for years and this post made me smile. im with you, it isnt easy dealing with people specially the difficult ones. even if you dont see them but there are people who really get into your nerves. but i never hated my job. i chose this and was excited about it and im happy that i lasted this long. sure ive had my fair share of bad vibes but i understand cause its part of my job. i wish you a job that will motivate you, where you can grow and develop your skills.

I only worked in the field of education in several schools. I was happy teaching, but not dealing with so many changes in curriculum, most of which were so bad, they were changed many times over. I am retired now and very content.

I guess it wasn't easy to deal with young people, was it? What kind of teacher you were?

@alilin28 I taught first grade, then grades K to 6 in special education. I also taught a few college courses in special education. Before I became a teacher, I had jobs in a bakery, dress shop, department store, and on a phone selling magazines! That lasted two weeks! Ugh!

I can so relate to your picture. I worked in a call center for 11 years. I hated every moment, but as you said, jobs were hard to find and I had bills to pay, and then one day they fired me. I was happy and sad at the same time. Sad because I was out of work, and that ended up being three years until I could collect Social Security. You see I was close to retirement when they fired me, and businesses just don't hire people who will retire soon. So that was the sad state I was in because I was no longer employed. However, I was free of the call center and that was a blessing.

@alilin28 Yes I am, and now that I'm retired, I don't need to worry about going back to it either.

I lasted 6 months in a call centre - it's not the type of job I particularly want to do
