How honest and open are you?

Should you really tell all - to a friend, a sibling, a parent or anyone whom you trust and is close with? I sometimes find it uncalled for when someone comes to me ( even a friend) and tell me everything about them - I mean, it's fine but for me but I'd rather not find out more than what I needed to know about someone besides if I like them I could care less what their backgrounds are - I'd accept them for who they are and they don't need to pretend while I'm around. I love my friends - all of them and they can trust me and I trust them but I dont' tell them everything (there is about me) so I'm kind of expecting the same from them. what about you guys?

I am not the type of person who would tell everything about me to others unless I was asked.

that's fine, as long as you are already in good terms with that person. I on the other hand only tell a few things about me. I'm not really good at keeping secrets I just prefer to not talk about myself most of the time.

There are things that are better kept to ourselves rather than being shared. I like chatting with my friends and I appreciate their trust in telling me about their personal lives, but there are indeed some things that are best kept a secret.

No, you don't tell them everything People change when situation arises and sometimes it's better to keep something for yourself.

well, that depends on the relationship you got with them. But there are things better not said.....

exactly. It's fine when you tell a special someone a thing or two about yourself but it's inappropriate if you keep telling whenever you feel like it just so you can say you're an "open book"

I have experienced one that made me cringe for every vivid details she is revealing about something that is too personal. I think some of us know ourselves all to well that we are aware of our public self and private self while others aren't.

i know what you mean, happens to me everytime - i don't know why some people choose to spill every little detail about their personal lives; it's ridiculous.

@slayer08 right on. And it is really hard to delete them from your mind. Some people feels too comfortable in sharing. I wonder if you can follow up this post with how would someone know he or she is already over sharing.

It is similar to me. When I was a kid I always wanted the best friend who I would be all the time with and we would know everything about each other. I have had some best friends over my childhood but they seemed like they were never perfect friends (one was the popular girl, but a little bit egoistic, the other one was my best friend for like one day and then she told me "she needs to be friends with the popular one"...) hihi :) I found out I cannot have one best friend, I cannot be that open to anyone. Actually I have one or two girls I tell them quite a lot, but never everything. Maybe because I do not have good experiences ? And maybe because some things are just for myself :)

nah.. some things are really best kept to ourselves. That's good though that you don't tell everything, just the important ones of course but not everything. Privacy is still self respect and you want to keep it that way, right?
