Favourite Roast Dinner

In the UK a certain pub chain has stopped cooking Sunday Roast Dinners. You can get these meals most days of the week for those who don't know. A roast dinner consists of Roast beef, lamb. chicken. turkey or roast meat of your choice. With roast potatoes , yorkshires, {batter pudding}. Selection of vegetables , gravy and appropriate sauce. Now if you enjoy and look forward to your roast dinner any day of the week remember it is now old fashioned and you are behind the times.

My mother made the best ever Yorkshire pudding for Roast dinners. I certainly miss her cooking.

I'm not a big fan of Wetherspoons food so wouldn't have considered a roast dinner there. It's okaty for something cheap and cheerful occasionally but it wouldn't be somewhere I would choose to eat. I loved Wetherspoons when they first came to Northern Ireland but quality has went downhill.

Wetherspoons is the pub chain. Thanks for that could not remember it. I went in there a long time ago but to be honest ours does not look much when you look through the window. I expect there will still be other places that can cook and not defrost or microwave.

@euphie I would pay a bit extra for proper food.

@suzzy3 Yeah, I'd much rather pay a little extra and get something decent when I'm out. Occasionally do mystery shopping assignments for Wetherspoons and that's probably the only time I eat there.

Those pub chains are pretty dreadful. I suppose that they don't employ chefs who are even capable of roasting a joint of meat these days. Nearly everything comes pre-portioned and frozen and all the kitchen staff have to do is to cook it according to the instructions and make it look exactly as it does on the picture menu! We have a number of good pubs round here which do Sunday roasts (though mostly they only do them on Sundays). They do vary quite a bit in quality, however. One which we visited recently did what looked like a good roast dinner and, to tell the truth, the vegetables were done nicely and there was plenty on the plate but the meat (beef) seemed to have been cut with a chainsaw and I had three slabs which I simply couldn't tackle with the ordinary cutlery they provided. I had them wrapped and took them home. There was 400 grams (14 oz) of good meat which I minced and made into a cottage pie which gave four good servings!

I think that is the problem no one can cook anymore. Most things are microwaved in those places. sounds like they over did the meat , nice to get another meal out of it.

To me it is not old fashioned and if they no longer served it there I would find someplace else to go.

I used only roast on Sundays usually when I lived there suzzy. It is sad to know now that these dinners are no longer being served, sign of the times? Love the Yorkshire puddings..I can still make them.

@suzzy3 Yes, it is filling and tastes divine. However, I do like the occasional porridge and chutney.
