Good Job I Came Back Early

My friend and I were helping another elderly friend with a hospital appointment. The older friend was having her cataracts done. My friend was took her early and I was going back later to help the old lady out of the hospital and back home. While waiting for our older friends call from the hospital my friends husband got back early from golf and announced he would pick her up. Since he had cut his golf short I decided to let him go instead of me and came home. As I walked through the door I could smell something ,then realising I had left the gas on low went to the cooker only to discover the liver and bacon I had cooked for my husbands dinner was stuck to pan. If I had gone onto the hospital with my friend to pick our other friend up my house would have probably caught alight. I had forgotten to turn the gas off !! The funny thing is I got up extra early to cook my hubbys dinner as I thought I would still be at the hospital picking up our old friend. He ended up with egg and chips . It was weird because something told me to get home fast.

Good thing you get back early, could have been an expensive bit of forgetting

The worst thing was hubby has just spent nearly a month and a fortune doing up the kitchen. New cupboard doors and all that. He took it better than I thought he would. I must be more careful.

I'm glad you got home in time. I have don't that too. I think I we only do it once since It has never happened again. It was pretty scary to see smoke and the smell of burning food...

Mine had not got that far , the food was in a very heavy pan with a lid on it. It had stuck to the bottom of the pan if it had been any longer I would have been in real trouble. I just thank my lucky stars I came home when I did.

Something brought me home early and so glad it did. Funnily enough I felt uncomfortable at my friends house. It makes me go cold when I think about it. Hubby has just finished doing up the kitchen for me as well. He would have been well cheesed off if I had burnt it out.

I got away with it thank goodness. It will live in my memory for a long time the horror of what could have happened.

@LdeL0318 To right, I don't think my heart could take that fear again.

@suzzy3 That's true. Well at least now you will always check everything before you leave the house.

Lucky you! It was scary to think of the what ifs. In the city i live in, houses get burned down almost every week and I pray to God that won't ever happen to me. Be careful next time.

I have put the oven on my check list , shut windows find keys and make sure the ovens off. I am normally so careful. It just goes to show a moment's lapse and anybody can have a disaster.

I was really shocked at myself. Hubby was frightened for me when I told him. In future shut windows make sure the cookers off before I leave the house.I am normally so careful , it just goes to show even the most careful people can make a mistake.

I am normally so careful. What a day , it makes me go cold when I think about it. I need a better routine when i leave the house especially if I have been cooking.Hubbys just finished doing the kitchen up. He would have been well cheesed off if I had burnt it out.
