My Barbie Doll

My aunt Connie gave me my first Barbie doll back in the early 60's. It was the original with the black and white striped swimming suit. She had dark hair in a long ponytail. I made her all kinds of clothes, got afew of the barbie line clothes too. I may have had a Ken at some point but I don't remember having one. The Ken doll actually came out in 1961. I just enjoyed dressing her and making clothes for her. I gave her to my BFF's younger sister when I got too old for her any longer. I didn't know that Barbie had all the regular information as if it were a real girl. She was officially born March, 9,1959. I didn't know she had a full name of Barbara Millicent Roberts.(Wonder if she is related to Julia)Her official hometown is Willows, Wisconsin. Did you have a Barbie doll? I didnt have Barbie dolls growing up but my sisters did. I got them later in life and had a few in storage which I sadly lost.

My elder sister had one around 1967, if i remember right my Dad bought it at an Esso or Shell gas station. It was blonde, blue eyed and fair skin and wore blue shorts. She and her half Filipino half Hawaiian friend would play a lot with their barbies. My daughter also had barbies but i think they were already made by Mattel China, not sure

@celticeagle yes they were great dolls and highly collectible now especially if you have the original box and accessories, 1960's would already fetch a price

I did not know any of that either. My mom loved Barbie dolls so yes I did have them as a child but I did not play with them as much as my sister or even my mom did.

@celticeagle You would think that woul dbe something they'd market with the dolls themselves. They may have wanted the children to come up with names and backstories themselves though.

@ScribbledAdNauseum ...I guess so. Maybe this was something that came out with the first production and then they just left it off after that.

oh yes, and we had more clothes than anyone I knew, because both mom and gram sewed, so for birthdays and holidays we'd get tons of little garmets made from scratch. I had no idea how cheap they were making those days, since this cost them nothing, lol, at the time, I was just excited I had BOXES of garb when others had maybe an outfit or two

I remember I had a Barbie doll when I was a child. Perhaps this is many girls' toys. Do you know that today the BJD (ball joined doll) is much more popular? These dolls look more real and they are quite beautiful. You can not only make clothes for them, but also makeup for them. You can search more information via the net. But BJD is very expensive.

No, I never had a Barbie doll. I stopped to play with dolls when I was about 8 years old, Barbie arrived to the Italian market that I was too old for dolls.
