What makes you happy in your work?

Sometimes jobs become repetitive and there are periods when I feel bored at work. As a result my productivity goes down and I think this may happen to anyone, even in the most interesting and demanding work fields. In those times, I am looking for the little things that make me happy in the job, the creative part that attracted me from the beginning. So, what makes you happy in your work? Is it the people you work with, the working environment, the job field itself or something else that keeps you going every day?

not working just now but when working not having a boss breathing down my neck is the best time to be there

Nothing worse than having a boss breathing down your neck. Why does he employ you if he does not trust you.

That's a hard job to find! I can only think of freelancing but it's equally stressful in my opinion.

@suzzy3 Most bosses enjoy that, I am not sure if it has to do with trust.

If I am working in office, I need to have good boss, good colleagues and I like the work I do, then I'll be happy to go to work. I am glad my previous jobs were like this, so I was always happy to go to work. Now that I am working as a freelancer at home, so I don't really need to work with anyone, the job must be something I like to do in order for me to enjoy working. I am a programmer, it's the job I enjoy doing, as it's not repetitive and routine work at all, and it's always interesting and challenging. But, sometimes it can be too challenging, then I wonder why I chose this job and make myself struggle.

@besweet Yes, same as you, I'd still choose the same course, and still work as a programmer. It's a job I really like to do. It's just fun, interesting and challenging! It's really good that you are going to learn how to create an app. I want to learn that as well, but I'll need to wait until I finish my current projects, then I'll spend some time to explore that. That's an interesting area to learn as well. Do you mind sharing where do you apply for the course online? I also just started to work together with my husband. He's the one who got the few recent freelance projects that I am working on, so he goes and meets clients and gathers the requirements, and I mainly stay at home and do the programming work. It can be quite challenging, as he doesn't have IT background, and I have to explain something about the work to him. But I think it can be quite good, as I have never really work with him before, and it's great that we understand each other's work better now.

@kaka135 Haha! I wonder the same about my work field, but I would choose the same if I had to go to the university again. I would just select another country to find a job. Programming is interesting, I have some basic knowledge and I recently applied for an online course on how to create an app! Hopefully I will be able to follow! @LadyDuck I always thought that you must have a lot of patience to be able to balance the workplace and your life at home with your husband. On the other hand, it can be easier to work together because there is deeper communication. Doesn't this help you complete each other's work without misunderstandings on what needs to be done?

@besweet Every woman who works with her husband will tell you that husbands are the worst boss. They pretend more from their wives than from a normal assistant or secretary. It is true that working together every day you learn to know your husband more and to understand why not every day is a funny day to go out and enjoy a restaurants. His problems have always been my problems.

I love the people I work with. In fact, our earning is small, but the people makes me smile and crazy

My first reply was posted on @kaka135 's post by mistake! I still don't know how it happened. I think that the distinction between responses and comments isn't very clear sometimes.

The nature of my work. I work from home. I have flexible working hours. I am my own boss. I don't have colleagues. I have the option to take a remote task or not. And, the list goes on.

Working from home can become repetitive too, do you find it easier to avoid routine when you are the one to select the work you can complete?

@rina110383 I was thinking about the routine tasks and I was wondering if it's actually good do have some routine tasks during the day. They might feel like a break and help our mind rest from the more demanding tasks.

Interesting professional choice! What type of cuisine did you cook? I find cooking very relaxing but I imagine that it can be very stressful for the professionals.

I guess I coud start by saying what makes me unhappy. I don´t like routine. So I try to make every job I do a bit different each time.

I don't like routine either, it's a good solution to add something new in every job but it also needs constant effort. But I think it is necessary in order to improve, isn't it?

I haven't worked in about 9 years but when I did work, I was always able to self motivate. It also helps if you have a great working environment.

It would be ideal to find the working life so rewarding that gives us satisfaction every day. It usually happens to me during the first years of a new job and then it decreases, I miss the days when I was waking up feeling happy just because I was going to work!

My work is rarely repetitive, with the exception I might have to work with very ignorant people? I also try to work on the things I enjoy, so work doesn't feel like work, and I don't have to "motivate myself to do it"

You are very lucky to work on a field that you enjoy so much! I used to be excited too but after 2.5 years, some parts of the job are the same every week. Do you have a big team that you're working with? Ignorant people need to be treated with patience!

Well, when I was working in the bank for long years, I could not remember I feel bored for I loved my work and we were assigned in different work assignment every now and then. Maybe there were some dull moments but they were just minimal.

The jobs that keep the interest high are the ones that we can remember the most. I would imagine that working in a bank can be repetitive, I am glad to hear that you were assigned to different tasks. Was this the bank policy for everyone?

I don't work right now, but when I did, my joy came from the people around me every day. I worked for a church as the Director of Religious Education and I met a lot of children, teachers and parents and I can honestly say I loved them all. I was so happy to go to work every day!
