I Didn't Go to Work Today

...so I could watch my son play basketball. I told my boss I was suffering from diarrhea.
Okay, stone me to death and crucify me for lying and wasting taxpayer's money (I work in the government) for not working today. But hey, I am entitled to sick leave -- for the lack of appropriate leave -- and my son needed me. Or that's what I am making myself believe.
I'm sorry but the game fell on a Monday and it was a crucial game so I had to watch it. I couldn't be at any other place but there in the basketball court cheering my heart out for my son's team. And this is the first time that they wore their uniforms so I had to take pictures of them. I don't care if the President needs me -- just kidding.
For months, my husband has been training this team as their coach. Even if he hated it whenever I would criticize his decisions, I knew he wanted me to be there because he didn't wake me up even if he was up very early today. In the previous game, he even pushed me away because I kept telling him that his star players were not playing right. He admitted that after the game, but during the game he would not give me the satisfaction of being able to call the shots.
But hey, I also played basketball in high school and college, and I'm an NBA fan so I know my observations make sense. And guess what? I'm the manager. He's only the coach. Hahaha.
That's also one of the reasons why I didn't go to work. I made sure that they get their uniforms today because as I anticipated, the funds that they raised would not be enough. I know being able to finally wear their uniforms would give them a boost and make them try harder.
End of story: they won. They're now on their way to the semi-finals. I love these guys.
I hope their next game will fall on a weekend. I can't lie too often.

That's OK. We have to do everything to show our support for our kids. Good job for them winning the game!

@yalul070 hahaha ya the 16year old might as well be 30! That's the only reason I thought he might be your husband the only adult male there.

yes, I agree with your last statement that the basketball game should be on a weekend so that you will not tell white lies again.

@ridingbet even when I'm on leave, I also call the office to check at my staff (to make sure that they're working). if it's near where I live I would drop by at the office just to check them even if i'm on a day-off.

@yalul070 we are similer. As much as possible, I do not like to absent myself from duty, I think of the students who wake up early, fix themselves and go to the hospital only to find out that I will not be around. That is why, a day before or 5 hours prior to my duty, I send a text message to the clinical coordinator, level coordinator and the beadle.

I would do the same , if i were in your stead . We are entitled to our paid leaves anyway . But even if i have consumed them all then they just deduct one day from my salary .
It's good that you also love basketball .
They all look good indeed in their uniforms . So the one in green shirt is your husband ? And which one is your son ?

When I had sick days I most often took them when I wasn't sick either. Many times you just have to do what's right for your kids.
