A later feature of training on the Underground was working 'trackside' at West Ashfield station. You will not find this station on a map of the Underground, as it lives on the 6th floor (I think) of the training centre. On this piece of equipment, we learnt how to carry out various tasks on the rails, under controlled and safe conditions, as well as working close to a train. Not in the picture is a mock up of a train cab, so you could practise the procedures to ensure the train does not move while you are in front. Always a good thing to know!

Thanks for the sneak peak into the inner workings of underground training. Was there any training in what to do when confronted by dalecks?

Another of the non-existent tube stations, like Vauxhall Bridge of James Bond fame...?

@Ronrybs I would not know, not having had to stay in London, or the suburbs, for anything longer than a few days at a time. How those guys on the radio can play Mornington Crescent as they do...!

If I remember right, Vauxhall Bridge was on the Piccadilly Line (according to the film), West Ashfield is on the District. It is out there on the net

I have never known anybody that works on the underground. I bet that was different.

@Ronrybs You've had some good jobs. Did you maintain the aircraft or fly them

What a good idea. The underground must be a hazardous place to work, so such training is paramount

That must be some serious training if they went to all that trouble.

It was in depth, safety was very important. I was only learning the basic stuff, just in case I got invovled.
