So I'd never heard of this doomsday clock thing until I was watching Madam Secretary last night and they mentioned it. So I looked it up and it's a real thing. A group of scientists with a metaphorical clock that shows how close we are to the brink of global catastrophe. It includes nuclear war, climate change, etc and is actually a really neat idea. In 1991 when the cold war ended it stood at 17 minutes until midnight. This year it stands at 3 minutes until midnight which is as close as it's been since the Cuban missile crisis. Pretty scary if you think about it. Although it's a metaphorical clock, it's still educated people with training and experience and they've pretty much got it right.

That is frightening. I never heard of the Doomsday clock and I was a lot happier when I didn't know!

Yeah it was new to me too, but I thought it was a neat idea even though it's scary just how close we are to global catastrophe.

I saw the same story on Madam Secretary and then read about it on The Daily Voice News. It is an interesting way to realize how close we are to Doomsday. Having it so close to midnight, however, has left the scientists with little flexibility.

For sure. It's something I plan to keep on eye on from now on though. Scary stuff.

Yikes! I never heard of this either. It's important information, and more than a little scary. I sure hope the PTB get their acts together to save our planet and those of us living here.
