Grindr/tindr/scissr do any of these lead to ACTUAL relationships?

I've heard of these sites, dating on the go kind of apps more than actual dating websites. I know people that use them... But do they actually lead to anything, or are they just for one night stands (or hook-ups as they are called)? My son uses one, as has one of my younger sisters and from my point of view, they seldom seem to lead to anything substantial... I've never met anyone my son has "hooked-up" with, and the one person my sister met, she only saw a handful of times. Am I out of touch with what is classed as dating these days, does no one meet in the old fashioned way any more? (going out and actually meeting someone through family or friends, or just meeting in a club or pub?).

For myself I have been to clubs, bar and pubs. The music is terrible and sounds even worse. Not being able to actually have a conversation with anyone is a big turn off. Also to mention the females least around my age, are usually very snotty. I would much rather use Tinder or POF. As I can sit in the comfort of my own place. Whether I get accepted or rejected, least I don't have to get dressed up, waste money on drinks, cover fee and, time driving there. I can have a nice conversation with whoever right on my computer or phone. Even if it is only for a hookup, the chances are better over the internet. Myself is looking for a relationship and hookups. I am going to have fun until I meet someone.

That's a brilliant way to put it and a great explanation as to why someone would use them :) I used to enjoy going out with my friends when I was single, not necessarily to find a date, but to enjoy myself and if I found someone i liked then all the better. Having never needed these types of sites (I've been in a relationship nearly 9 years now and met him through my brother), I just didn't quite understand the appeal, you've summed it up quite well I think.

@bobbyjoe143 I am more of a stay in type. I prefer to have a nice bbq, bonfire and drinks. Least we can be comfy or get comfy together. And the bedroom isn't far if things go that way.

@bobbyjoe143 Here in India I do not think these sites lead to anything serious. Now, at my age I do not give much attention to such sites.

They aren't my sort of thing either, I'm old fashioned and met my partner in person, not online :)

I think these sites are just like an ice breaker. A friend of mine used Tindr and showed me how it works. I guess the only problem with this is even if you see the potential guys in the area, they are hesitant to make the move as well - unsure if this is because since it's the internet, you really do not know what to expect. I still go for the old fashioned way of dating but I guess people are having a hard time accepting rejection that they do not make any move at all unless both parties were set up by friends or family.

I guess I can see how using these sites can make for a good ice breaker, not having to do all the initial "leg work" in person. :)

I never used these sites but I know of friends who tried. Of which one was a success. I believe it was Tindr? Tinder?

It's nice that some people are trying to make real connections :) Honestly from all I'd heard (which to be fair isn't that much really), it just seemed like a one night stand site! And yes, the spelling annoys me too, I mean seriously, would it have hurt to put the "e" in there?

@bobbyjoe143 Haha I don't know why those sites aren't spelled correctly. But it is nice to see real connections - they've been together for a few years now!

I met my current girlfriend on POF, but that wasn't my intention joining that site. I signed up because it was free and my co-worker suggested I talk to women for fun, so I did. I didn't fill out much of the profile because I wasn't looking for anything. I added phrase to the tagline, "Rat Racer", which caught my girl's attention. Two weeks later, I asked her out for drinks. Three weeks after that, she and I were boyfriend and girlfriend. Truth be told, online dating sites work. I don't know how, but they do. I was of the old mindset, I can meet anyone, anywhere. I don't need a stupid site. Well, give it try. Who knows, Mr. Right may be out there looking for you.

Well it's good to know they work :) I know POF is a dating site, much the same as person and zoosk are these days, however, these new ones tend to be more like apps on peoples phones as much as they are on normal websites. They tell you about singles in your area (like a little sat nav of single people near you!). I'm not in need of finding my Mr. Right though, as I already have one, I was just wondering about them in general and if someone knew more about them than me :)
